Caine: ‘I’ll Never Retire’

I think this is good, he will just keep on going.

Legendary movie star Michael Caine has vowed to keep on acting – as long as he is offered gritty roles.

The two-time Oscar winner has enjoyed major success on the big screen, appearing in more than 100 films throughout his lengthy career.

But the 76-year-old insists he has no plans to retire, and will happily take on any decent role he is offered.

He says, “I don’t think you ever retire from films – films retire you. Sometimes, if you’re unfortunate, after your first film. What happens is you say ‘I’m going to retire’. And then someone turns up and gives you this script. So you’re not retiring.

“I don’t have my next movie and I’m not looking for one. But someone will give me a script possibly and I’ll work again. If someone doesn’t give me a script that I want to do, I’ll retire. But there won’t be a great announcement or fanfare of trumpets. I just won’t do anything. I’ll stay at home and do what I always do, which is cooking, gardening and writing.”

Roberts Breath Woes On Set

I love Jules and find this really amusing.

Julia Roberts‘ love of peanut butter sandwiches caused a stink on the set of her new film Duplicity – she had bad breath during her love scenes with co-star Clive Owen.

Pretty Woman star Roberts and Owen have been firm friends since starring together in 2004’s Closer, and Roberts insists it made her more comfortable shooting the saucy scenes in their new movie.

But she often munched peanut butter sandwiches between takes – forcing her to freshen up before filming the intimate scenes.

Roberts says, “At least we could talk to each other and say, ‘Honey, do you have a mint? I’m sorry but I just had a peanut butter sandwich.'”

Hannah Montana Sings To Number One At U.S. Box Office

I think it was pretty obvious that this would go straight to number 1. As Hannah Montana is so popular. I really want to see it. haha.

Miley CyrusHannah Montana: The Movie has taken over the top spot at the U.S. box office, boasting earnings of $34 million (£23.2 million) in its debut weekend (10-12Apr09).

It’s the second number one box office debut in America for Cyrus and her Disney alter-ego Hannah Montana – who took the top spot last year with a 3-D concert film.

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker‘s Fast & Furious was knocked from the top spot, but pulled in at second with earnings of $28.8 million (£19.6 million).

But the action film has held on to the title for the biggest opening weekend of 2009, boasting a two-week total of $118 million (£80.4 million).

Animated film Monsters vs Aliens took third place with $22.6 million (£15.4 million) and was followed by Seth Rogen‘s new comedy, Observe and Report, which debuted at $11.1 million (£7.5 million)

Nicolas Cage‘s thriller Knowing rounded out the top five, taking in $6.7 million (£4.6 million) in its fourth week at the box office.

Empire Magazine 2009 Awards

Best Newcomer: Gemma Arterton

I think thats a good choice of winner, she was very good in “St. Trinians” and was in QoS too.

Best Comedy: Son of Ranbow

I have not seen this, so have no idea what its like. But it beat “In Bruges” ?!?! I must give it a watch sometime then.

Best Horror: Eden Lake

I have not seen this, so I have no idea what to make of it winning. Watch it maybe?

Best Thriller: Quantum of Solace

YAY an awards ceremony which James Bond films pick up awards. Good times !!!

Actor of Our Lifetime: Russell Crowe

Yeah not a bad choice at all. Russell is a very good actor, has been in some fantastic films and usually performs no matter what the role is.

Best Director – Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight)

Empire loves Christopher Nolan and rightly so. The Dark Knight was so fantastic. Christopher totally deserved more recognition from other awards for this.

Best Sci-Fi/Superhero – Wanted

Quite suprised to see that Wanted won this over “The Dark Knight”. But I did enjoy “Wanted”. I suppose the awards were handed out to cover quite a lot of movies which came out over the year. But note to self . . . didnt the readers vote for there winner?

Best Soundtrack – Mamma Mia!

Yeah, it really had to be “Mamma Mia!” that picked up this award, it was such a huge film for last year. Such a feel good film and the soundtrack is feel good as well.

Best British Film – RocknRolla

I liked this and thought it was very good. But cannot believe “In Bruges” was beaten by it. (Yes I am a massive In Bruges fan if you hadn’t noticed already.)

Best Film – The Dark Knight

And rightly so !!! That makes more sense now why it did not win Best Sci-fi/Superhero . . . as it won Best Film. It really is something else and deserves so many awards and so much praise.

Best Actor – Christian Bale (The Dark Knight)

It really was a Dark Night at the Empire awards . . . yes that was a bad attempt at a pun/joke. But hey it won a lot of awards. Christian Bale I dont think got enough credit for how good he is in the Batman films especially the Dark Knight.

Best Actress – Helena Bonham Carter (Sweeney Todd)

Pleased Sweeney got an award as I really loved it a lot. Helena was very good in her version of Mrs Lovett (as I have seen a few different versions).

Empire Icon – Viggo Mortensen

I love Viggo and I love that Sean Bean presented him with the award. He is such a versitle actor and seems like a nice guy too (from seeing him in interviews and things like that). He seems rather shy with all the interview stuff but such a lovely man. Yes I did fall in love with Aragorn when I first saw Lord of the Rings thank you very much.

Fame (2009) Movie Posters

So “Fame” has been remade for a new generation and I am very excited. Fame is very well known, I have even played 5-a-side football dressed in Fame gear haha.

I really hope that the dress is still the leg warmers etc, as without that it would not at all be the same. So far 4 different posters have been released in different colours. They are quite simple in my opinion. But the poster for me does not matter I am a musicals geek so would see it no matter what.

Julie & Julia (2009) Movie Poster

So I think this is a very brave poster for Meryl Streep and Amy Adams new movie. Yes Meryl’s new movie and it doesnt have Meryl on the poster . . . very brave move !!!

Sheen Signs Up For New Moon

I think this will be very good for Michael Sheen. He is a terrific actor and totally deserves to be even bigger in the public spotlight.

Frost/Nixon star Michael Sheen is to star as a bloodsucking vampire in the highly anticipated Twilight sequel.

Sheen has agreed to take on a prominent role alongside fellow Brit Robert Pattinson in New Moon, director Chris Weitz has revealed.

He will play the character Aro – the leader of an Italian vampire clan called the Volturi.

Weitz says, “Michael’s role is so important because he’s the head of all vampires. Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat.”

Sheen will reportedly receive $7.3 million (£5 million) for taking on the role.

Filming on New Moon is scheduled to begin in Italy this spring.
