Blogathon: Women in Film – Hermione Granger

The Women in Film Blogathon is being hosted by John over at Hitchcock’s World and such a great idea to get you thinking about female characters in the world of film.

Here are the rules:

  1. The female character in question should have qualities that make her strong. That doesn’t necessarily mean better than the guys, just well-written; we’re trying to promote equality here, not reverse misogyny.
  2. Unlike my previous blogathon, I’m going to be a bit stricter here and say that each entry should only focus on one character. However, if you like you can write multiple entries examining different characters.
  3. If you can, do try to find less obvious choices. There are a few that I can expect are likely to get picked: Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor, etc. If you decide to write about any the “obvious” choices, I encourage you to at least try and find something new to say about them.
  4. You are allowed to pick characters from any film from genre or time period you like.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) Review

Quite a few years have passed since we last saw Caesar and the rest of the apes, the human race has almost been wiped out by a virus and not many of them remain. With the apes still growing in power, it wasn’t going to be long before both species collided.

27 Today!

Today I turned 27 years old … Yes very scary! I always do a birthday post as was struggling to come up with something different. But I managed it, I have found out that a few actresses won at Oscar when they were 27 years old.

Bette Davies – Dangerous (1936)

Cineworld Secret Screening 3 – Possible Films?

The day is almost here … The third Unlimited members secret screening from Cineworld. The first was a very early preview of Now You See Me and the second was very disappointing with The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (as a preview was scheduled for the week after). So let’s hope that having one of these right before some big blockbusters are going to come out really pays off!

Blogathon: Against The Crowd

Just stumbled across this blogathon and it is a fantastic idea. With the title Against the Crowd it is pretty self-explanatory you get to pick two films which everyone seems to love and you hate, and then a film everyone seems to hate and you love. Hosted by Dell on Movies!

The Rules

1. Pick one movie that “everyone” loves (the more iconic, the better). That movie must have a score of at least 80% on rottentomatoes.com. Tell us why you hate it.

2. Pick one movie that “everyone” hates (the more notorious, the better). That movie must have a score of less than 30% on rottentomatoes.com. Tell us why you love it.

3. Include the tomato meter scores of both movies.

Do you agree with my choices, or do you think I am totally mad?

Cats (UK Tour) Review

The memory returned to the North East again, this time it has been in Newcastle at the Theatre Royal for two weeks and I caught the final performance on Saturday night. This is the second time I have seen this production after seeing it at the Sunderland Empire in May 2013. Most of the cast were the same and that is such a good thing, the only noticeable change for me was someone different taking on the very difficult role of the Rum Tum Tugger. This was a bit of a shame as the current actor taking on that part isn’t quite as good as the one who was in the tour back when I saw it last year.

7 Extremely Cool Photos of Bill Nighy

Still cannot believe I got to meet Bill Nighy last week and see him perform on stage. So yes he is involved in another blog post, if you check out his tag on the blog you will see my obsession goes back to at the very least 2009 … although that is when this blog was created so maybe a long time before that! So here we go with 7 extremely cool photos of the one and only Mr Bill Nighy!

Monty Python Live (mostly) – The O2

After having the tickets for about 8 months on Saturday night we eventually got to The O2 to see Monty Python Live (mostly) – One down five to Go. Even the title of the show has a couple of jokes in it! Over 40 years after they last appeared on a stage in the UK as well, all five of them in their 70s but you really wouldn’t have guessed that with the amount of energy put into the show.
