When young graffiti artists break into rich people’s homes and paint “I Came By” on the wall, it felt a risk but the fact that it would uncover a dangerous secret that would be life threatening was never really thought about!

Hector Blake had been a public figure and was now living a quiet life, or so it seemed. When Toby Nealey broke into his house one night to do the usual graffiti he got much more than he bargained for when he stumbled across someone being kept as a prisoner in the basement. This was something that shocked Toby to the core and despite contacting the police who found nothing he was not willing to let it go!
His best friend had not gone with him that night due to becoming a father soon and not wanting to be sent to prison and taking responsibility for his actions. He does let him know that something was not right and when Toby’s behaviour after that night makes his mother Lizzie concerned for her son. The police not doing anything mean that Toby will venture back into the house and attempt to save the man who was there himself!
From that moment on the film attempts to have twists and turns that don’t quite work out, but one thing I wasn’t quite expecting was not enough to make it engaging enough. One moment that shocked me to the core was the police in Hector Blake’s house for the second time and how he appeared to be totally normal on one side of the door and not on the other, that did make me jump!
Lizzie as a mother was never going to stop looking for her son and that certainly meant she was going to do things you just shouldn’t and following the standard formula for this type of film which led to disappointing moments as it was just too obvious. Even what should have been edge of your seat moments felt as though they were always coming and then just not really worth it in the end.
The casting was very good though in terms of big names and seeing Hugh Bonneville take on this rather sadistic and evil character was a rather nice change to how we usually see him on screen. Kelly Macdonald was decent and I have really grown to love George MacKay in recent years!
I Came By had a lot of potential and just didn’t live up to what it could have been which was a true shame, feeling as though it had many scenes cut out was a vibe I got from it as somethings felt rushed and didn’t make a massive amount of sense.

I really liked this one. Deliciously dark in places! 3.5/5 for me.

I’m another one that didn’t like this one. I was working on my laptop watching it and wasn’t 100% into it, but felt like it kept skipping things. Sounds by this review I didn’t miss anything, it just wasn’t there. But I see a positive comment as well, and have read other positive reviews. I might give it another try.

Yeah, I think it had potential but lacked overall for me. Could have been on another level terrifying!
