Triangle of Sadness (2022) Review

Palme d’Or winner in 2022. Social hierarchy is turned upside down when celebrity model couple Carl and Yaya are invited on a luxury cruise for the super rich.

⭐️

Now I truly have no idea how or why this film has been so widely acclaimed and picked up the top honour at Cannes the Palme d’Or. It is clear that I totally missed the point of this utter drag of a film and the longest 2 hours and 27 minutes of watching utter nonsense.

Carl and Yaya are all about the social media side of raising their profiles and attempting to make a lot of money in the process. They argue about gender roles and who should pay for things, which quite frankly probably happens a lot in real life for people?

Everything would take different turns though when the cruise on the luxury yacht does not go to plan when hitting a bad storm and several guests become violently seasick and panic breaks out. After this pirates attack the yacht in the morning, which causes it to capsize. Leaving only a small group of survivors who escape to an island.

It really has blown my mind to how well received this film has been, why I felt totally lost watching it wondering just why so much hype is around it. Honestly I have nothing positive to say about the film at all. Each and every character was truly awful, not one likeable thing about any of them which does not make it easy to watch as I just quite frankly did not care. I mean was that even a little bit of the point of the film? If anyone would care to explain that to me in the comments I would appreciate it.

Another thing it has made me think and wonder is that maybe it was just too damn pretentious for not only me but itself? I seriously will not be recommending this film to anyone, but also curious to why some people will love it.
