The legendary Clade’s family are about to discover that maybe you just cannot change what you are meant to do, getting to know each other in a very different world.

Ethan Clade wants nothing more than to be an explorer and follow in the footsteps of his Grandfather who disappeared when he was exploring. He is somewhat famous though and this had created an image of him and legendary status. Searcher Clade though is very content with his life as a farmer and turned his back on exploring a long time ago. He was therefore hoping the his son Ethan would be happy to continue the farming area that he was doing so well with.
A truly fantastic aspect of the film was that Ethan was openly gay and that is something brand new when it comes to Disney animated films and that really should be celebrated as a massive step forward and so incredible. It actually made me a little bit sad that I hadn’t even heard about this before watching the film, as come on it is actually a big deal (in the best possible way).
Strange World looks great and really does have a wide range of different characters, attempting to have an interesting story with the different world which contains some very different and strange animals as well. The thing is though the story contained within this world is actually a lot more than it being different, the story is about family and repairing father/son relationship that had seemed as though it was completely destroyed.
The turnaround time from cinema release to Disney+ was very fast for this one and I am sure some cinemas were still screening the film when it was available on the streaming platform. I don’t really feel as though they pushed Strange World very much, although it isn’t groundbreaking by any means but it is more than watchable and enjoyable throughout.

Agree re Ethan. I PARTICULARLY liked the reaction of his grandpa to he news (ie no reaction at all!). A fabulous example of how to normalise gender fluidity.
