Meet Cute (2022) Review

Would being able to travel into your partner’s past be a good thing when you can change and fix the trauma they experience? We are about to find out in Meet Cute.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Let’s face it by this point I am just totally a sucker for anything that takes on that Groundhog Day, same day over and over again approach. With this one as well I felt as though this film was what I needed on the day I watched it. Having the characters struggle with mental health and contemplating that things might never actually be all that good was rather hitting.

As we follow Sheila through her complex life, and repeating the day she totally loved when she met Gary. The time they spent together, although she has become utterly obsessed with it and wants to make it even more perfect than it actually had been. Taking on some rather creepy and strange moments as we see flashbacks to going back to different stages in his life. I mean that was totally done in what was meant the nicest way possible to try and support him.

“It’s okay for things to be messy sometimes.”

That quote was certainly a moment as come on everything cannot be perfect each and every time or all the time and messy can be perfectly ok. Then you think about the title being ‘Meet Cute’ and what means within films and stories, that moment when the main characters meet. In this one ironically we get to see that moment over and over and over again.

Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson just utterly work so well together throughout the film and something like this really cannot be easy to film when it’s basically the same scenes over and over again. But they really do nail it and I for one was totally taken in by them both. It takes quite a dark turn towards the end and I actually welcomed that rather than the usual thing you would see in rom-coms.
