Tokyo DisneySea

During my Tokyo Marathon trip back in March I had waited three years for that trip and only about a month or so before decided that I would add a Disney day to it all. I picked my last full day and had pre-booked a ticket for DisneySea, I researched a little into the two parks the other being Disneyland and decided that with DisneySea being more for adults. Plus I had been to Disneyland in Paris many years ago.

With DisneySea being very unique and having certain aspect that are truly just in Japan I thought it was the perfect park to visit. Given that my last Disney experience was nearly 20 years previous to this one I wasn’t fully sure what to expect in all honesty. Although I don’t think anything can really prepare you for just how crazy Disney is, people get well into it and it certainly makes for a very enjoyable day.

I quickly bought a headband as soon as I arrived and while something Monster Inc and Mike related was my number one choice, I couldn’t find anything so settled on the three eyed Alien from Toy Story headband and quite frankly I rocked it most of the day 😂.

The Disney app is certainly a key tool for the time in the park and therefore make sure that you have plenty of battery on your phone, as well as a portable charger and depending on which country you are in portable wifi or more than enough data! The app updates with the wait times for the different rides and my god even though I was prepared that it would be a long wait for some rides the 2 hours plus was a long time. That being in place I actually ended up buying fast passes for Toy Story, Journey to the Centre of the Earth and Tower of Terror. Unfortunately it wasn’t available for Indiana Jones so I didn’t end up waiting for that one. I can also fully understand now why one day in a park is not enough, as you spend the majority of the time queuing and that includes for food and oh the popcorn!

Obviously the wait time for the smaller rides is not that long and they are just as enjoyable, I mean I think I am still traumatised by the experience of the Tower of Terror. Seriously, I had no clue what was going to happen with that ride. Naturally all of the instructions being spoken are in Japanese, it wasn’t until I sat down when I saw the sign in English and had more of an idea of what I let myself in for. I mean the view from the top of the whole park was rather stunning until that damn drop, I 100% swore all the way down and I hardly ever swear.

As you can see from the above photo selection I ended up buying quite a lot of food, those little Alien dumplings were the top of my list and when I eventually found them had to queue for between 15-20 minutes and quite frankly it was more than worth it! I also couldn’t resist buying the Toy Story popcorn holder, although no idea why really as what am I actually going to use it for now? 😂 That’s something else about Disney you will find yourself buying things you will probably never use again.

It was a celebration of Minnie Mouse and the cast members sailed around the water on a boat, which quite frankly is what you would expect at a park with Sea in the title! I also went on a gondola ride which was supposed to be like Venice.

When I spotted Miguel from Coco I couldn’t resist buying him as well, which concluded my ridiculous spending whilst in DisneySea, at that point I realised I should probably leave.

All in all though it was a good experience, especially when my favourite Disney films were involved in the many areas and rides. The mask rule was still in place during my visit, but I think that was due to change the following week. This meant not many opportunities for photos with cast members, I did walk past Captain Jack Sparrow at one point though!

  1. Yes, it’s a fun place isn’t it… Disney but with a Japanese twist.

Fyi, my daughter Jenn is currently one of the 10 finalists in the UK’s No 1 fan competition and on a 10 day WW Disney holiday (France, Florida and Bahamas!). She is @susiesecondhand on Instagram, and the official Disney feed of the competition is just starting at @uksbiggestdisneyfan!
