When Ever Wong is thinking her summer before medical school will be great, her parents send her from Ohio to Taiwan on a study programme to help study Mandarin and culture. Although the fact that the teens call it “Loveboat” then maybe it will be enjoyable after all?
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ever Wong has only ever wanted to make her parents proud and does everything to ensure that, which includes going to medical school to become a doctor like her father. Although he has not been allowed to practice after moving to the US, Ever then sees it as her responsibility to pay him back for her life in America. The thing is though she has her own dreams of being a dancer and the summer abroad programme is really going to make it difficult for the audition she had lined up.
It doesn’t take Ever long to meet Sophie who decide to room together. Then Rick Woo, a boy she nicknames boy wonder as her mother is truly obsessed with him! That does break the ice a little bit and he is not as he appears on social media etc. Xavier Yeh is another boy who catches her attention rather quickly in the trip.
Being able to reunite with her Aunt Shu, someone she has always admired for her ability to travel and pretty much does whatever she wants. Another interesting learning curve really as is anyones life really as good as others think it looks? That was a big theme throughout this film and being honest about things that you really want is a good way to finding some happiness.
I rather liked this film a lot more than I ever expected in all honesty, highlighting a different country and potential cultural difference was a massive positive from this film and something that I was not expecting with it. The cast are all decent enough even if I couldn’t remember where I recognised Ross Butler from, yes it was 13 Reasons Why.
