Dumb Money (2023) Review

Dumb Money takes David vs Goliath tale and turns it into a real life true story of how everyday people flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop into the world’s hottest company. All started by Keith Gill, and his social media posts risking his life savings.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have to openly admit that I don’t know anything about the stock market and anything I may know about it comes from watching different films. Therefore it is not something that I can relate to at all, but it fascinates me in all honesty. I actually found scenes within this film to be very tense and I didn’t think it would be possible for a film of this type to fill you with anxiety.

It’s quite frightening to see that if the people at the bottom begin to make a difference, those at the top will do all they can to help each other and kill off any threat from the general population. That was evident throughout the story we see unfold in this film, a very quick turnaround from the events to it becoming a film on the big screen that’s for sure.

Just when I had started to forget about the torture of the mask wearing time, we are thrown back into that very quickly with this film. It’s crazy really that it feels like so long ago and something that doesn’t even feel real anymore. Anyway that will always help to highlight when the events took place.

We follow Keith Gill who uses his YouTube channel to talk about different stock trends that he had been studying, although constantly claiming that he is by no means an expert. He takes interest in GameStop a video game store in the US, which was very low and something he reckons can grow bigger. As he talks about it more people jump in to buy it which sees ridiculous increases in prices in such a short amount of time.

Along with Keith, we are given characters in very different struggles in life who want nothing more than to be more comfortable with money and that is certainly an aspect that we can all fully understand and get on board with, we cannot help but see why they go all on. That is what makes it terrifying, seeing the amount of money they have increased by in share prices and not selling feels very much like gambling.

An impressive cast make it a good and engaging watch from start to finish.
