A biopic about the life of Jose Hernandez and his path from being a farm worker and then training as an engineer, using that to work towards his ultimate goal of being an astronaut.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
This film highlights just how much you must sacrifice to achieve your goals and dreams, especially when it might feel as though people are attempting to stop you from doing that. It was never going to be easy for Jose to get into NASA and even though he is rejected year after year, he is not willing to just give up on it. He would go on to become the first Hispanic migrant to become a NASA astronaut.
Despite the impact it has on his marriage and family, he sees it as the way to make everything better for them as well. Given that he was an immigrant the whole story of his life is what we have come to know as the American dream, the reason people want to move to America. For a better lifestyle and opportunities when it comes to work, Jose was never going to be happy just being a farm worker and even becoming an engineer was still not enough for him. I really respected that aspect of his story, he had high goals and worked very very hard to achieve them.
Michael Peña was perfect casting for this film and quite frankly if he wasn’t in the leading role I really don’t think it would have been as engaging as it turned out. He has everything that you need to keep watching, he comes across as very likeable and that is essential to ensure the viewer wants to see him succeed.
