This film certainly takes that very quick turn from looking like it is going to be a standard romantic comey to becoming a rather heartfelt friendship drama, with some truly hilarious moments. You know the type of moments you would hope for in your life if you are battling to survive. Your best friend being your only hope of still being able to smile, which I will admit absolutly hit very hard!
I guess the whole thing of Jane baking cakes and taking them into bars is not obviously something that you see people do at all, and therefore made the film rather engaging straight away. Mainly, because it was just such a different thing to do. Alhtough Corinne had her reasons of not wanting her friend to be alone should the worst happen to her.
It is a little bit crazy how a life threatening illness can create some comedic moments and make you laugh at the same time as crying. However, I’d think. that making jokes would be a way of a person dealing with the worst possible outcomes. Even more so when it is your best friend, as the majority of the time you would be a similar age and you just wouldn’t expect something so tragic and bad to have to deal with, when you should be out having fun.
I will admit that Bette Midler being in the film was what pulled me completely in to watch it and quite frankly she only has a small role, I mean naturally she is great in this small role wouldn’t expect anything else would we! Yara Shahidi and Odessa A’Zion work well together as the best friends and carry the film through.
