Candy Cane Lane (2023) Review

Chris Carver loves nothing more than Christmas and he is truly determined to win the neighbourhoods annual decorating contest. In order to ensure he wins he makes a pact with Pepper an Elf which brings the 12 days of Christmas to life!

⭐️⭐️

Struggling to accept that as his children are getting older that they aren’t as into Christmas as they used to be, this gives Chris extra motive to attempt to win the contest and bring more Christmas joy to his family. Naturally that was always going to be a disaster. His wife Carol, by this point are you seeing the direction the names are going in? Well how about then adding that the children are called Joy, Nick and Holly? Too much yet?

Candy Cane Lane in parts feels like Deck the Halls and we all know that is not really a good film to be compared to, but it then tries to go a step further by adding in a magic Elf along with the 12 days of Christmas theme. Which I guess was rather ambitious to get as many Christmas messages rammed into one film!

Unfortunately though I didn’t really feel like much of it worked and it was all just that little bit too much for me personally. I guess though it can fit very nicely in the cheesy christmas film genre. Yes, I decided a few years ago that is well and truly a thing!

It probably does try to highlight that you can’t and shouldn’t really try and force the Christmas spirit on other people especially your family. But in the end Christmas is increidble and brings everyone together (only in films, not reality I must add).

  1. Agreed that this one didn’t work. Eddie Murphy looked a bit bored. I didn’t like his character which took me out of the story. And on the story – wasn’t it a bit too messy and convoluted? I had trouble trying to work out what was going on and did the need to capture five gold rings make any sense?
