Theater Camp (2023) Review

The staff of a rundown theater camp in upstate New York must attempt to keep it afloat when the beloved owner is takeen into hospital and her uninterested son attempts to destory everything she had built.

⭐️⭐️

Don’t get me wrong I was really looking forward to watching this film, as absolutly love musical theatre and thought we were going to get some incredible musical moments and even some good vocal performances to go along with it. That was not what this film turned into, it was more a terribly unfunny comedy with characters that were not even a tiny little bit likeable.

It certainly didn’t feel like it had much going for it at all for me, especially when you have Ben Platt in the leading role and he is well known for being quite a star on Broadway but he never actually got to show any of that off which was a rather strange decision I guess.

Summer camps are very much an American thing and we don’t have anything remotely similar in the UK, as we wouldn’t have anything where children stay over somewhere for a week or even most of the summer. Just day camps for different sports and activities. So I guess that is another aspect that we find rather interesting in the UK.

I don’t really see myself recommending this film though as it was a whole lot of nothing and by the time the ending came around I quite frankly didn’t really care at all about the characters. Give this one a miss would be my advice.
