Ferrari (2023) Review

In the summer of 1957 we follow Enzo Ferrari as he stuggles to prevent bankruptcy to his company and his failing marriage, dealing with the death of his son. Then decides to throw it all on the iconic 1000 mile race Mille Miglia.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

The story behind this film shows how close Ferrari came to not even exisiting anymore and I think that is something to really think about and focus on when now we know it as one of the biggest brands within Formula 1 racing and an extremly expensive supercar that many people just dream about owning or even driving once in their lifetime.

Enzo is facing many battles and trying to still commuicate with his wife Laura, they had built the company from nothing ten years earlier but everything is just a struggle by this point. Given the death of their son caused such a divide with the pair and then having another son with the woman he was having an affair with for many years, can everything be pieced together?

The thing is though the film never really got out of second gear in my opinion (yes, pun well and truly intended). This has nothing to do with my lack of knowledge around F1 or racing in general, as I have enjoyed many films in this genre over the years. I just felt as though the story manner just wasn’t engaging enough for me to get into, which was a shame. I also didn’t think the driving scenes were anything to get over excited about, I expected so much more from Michael Mann.

Adam Driver, is a fantastic actor though and this shows his versatility in a rather different type of role. I actually thought he pulled off the grey hair look incredibly well. But I just felt he could and should have been given so much more to work with. Shailene Woodley is an actresses who has had a very interesting career and it was good to see her in a film like this.
