Based on the very true story of the American Samoa football team who were known as the worst team in the world when they lost an international game by 31-0. The qualifers for the 2014 World Cup are approaching and the association decides they need a real coach to help turn them around.

Enter Thomas Rongen who has been having a very difficult time within his career and personal life, the only job he has been offered is of the American Samoa team and he really doesn’t have any idea of what he is letting himself in for. It turns into a situation where might have been brought in to try and improve the team, but the team, people and culture might just be able to save him.
From start to finish the film does have a nice feel around it and that is all it stays as really, nice. It never really pushes forward and I have to admit that I was expecting a little bit more from it. Yes, it has some amusing moments but it fails to hit the heights of being inspirational.
Given they were regarded as the worst football team in the world, they had never even scored a goal. The 31-0 defeat against Australia was a true embarrassment and something Tavita wanted to get past, he wasn’t even interested in them winning a game he just wanted to see the country score a goal. We get some rather interesting training moments and must wait to see the personal battle Thomas had been going through, although it wasn’t massively difficult to work it out.
Sport really is an incredible part of life and I quite frankly feel sorry for anyone who does not get it and understand the good that come from it in so many different ways. Whether that is as a player/competitor, coach or a spectator. It can bring people together and you can manage to achieve the impossible.
