Role Play (2023) Review

Emma and her husband Dave living in New Jersey with their two kids appear to have a perfect and lovely life, but she has been keeping a big secret … A double life where she works as an assassin.

⭐️⭐️

When the married couple decide that they want to try and spice things up a little bit amd add more fun one night and decide to role play. The thing is though that role playing goes rather wrong when a mysterious older man named Bob is about to make everything complicated and blow her two worlds into one. When Bob is found dead this will then lead to Emma and Dave being suspects of murder, as they had been seen with him. On being interviewed by the police Dave will find out about her double life.

The premise of the story is good enough with a few different ideas mixed in, although the execution falls extremely short. It attempts to have some dramatic links to a woman who was groomed into the world of killing people and trained to be an assassin which we have seen in other films but without the comedy attempt, maybe it works better that way?

I did hope that Kaley Cuoco and David Oyelowo would be good together but it didn’t really work out in the best way which was a shame as I have enjoyed them both in different film and televison programmes over the years. A small bonus was though a somewhat cameo role from Bill Nighy. Overall though the film just doesn’t really have all that much going for it.
