Best Actor in a Leading Role has been more of a top two with Cillian Murphy and Paul Giamatti going head to head at times and it being more between them that the others. It is a pretty strong category, but I personally think we could have seen some other performances nominated ahead of at least one of these.

Bradley Cooper – Maestro
I’ve already stated that I was not a fan of this film (don’t hate it, just think it was poor compared to other Award season films). Then Cooper’s performance is nothing special and many others could have been nominated instead of this one. This does take his Oscar nomination number up to 12 (5 for acting).
Colman Domingo – Rustin
The performance is the film for this one as Rustin is nothing special or even that good, Domingo goes all in and you can tell it’s a passionate role for him. Probably just seen as good recognition to be nominated.
Paul Giamatti – The Holdovers
Now this is my favourite performance from the five nominees, I just adored everything Giamatti did in the role and you could not help but pity and feel sorry for him, whilst also laughing at some fantastic one liners. I’m sure everyone would be with me and feel super happy if he wins?
Cillian Murphy – Oppenheimer
I’ve actually just been checking and realised this is Murphy’s first ever nomination, I don’t know why I assumed he had been nominated for something before! Anyway it is a truly remarkable performance he is a terrific actor who has been picking up so many awards for this. It certainly will go down to the wire between him anf Giamatti.
Jeffrey Wright – American Fiction
An actor I always enjoy no matter what the role and I felt as though he was great at leading this film, given some fantastic scenes to really hammer home some important points. I also feel he has more been a supporting actor in films and to see him lead was special.
Who would you like to see win the Oscar?
