Red Eye (2005) Review

When Lisa Reisert is kidnapped on a flight by stranger Jackson Rippner, she is threatened by the murder of her father to then help with the plot to assassinate a Homeland Security official.

⭐️⭐️

Everything was feeling pretty normal and standard for Lisa as she was waiting to get the red eye flight to Miami, her fear of flying wasn’t making for it to be a good trip but that was soon going to be the last thing on her mind. The rather charming and villianous Jackson Rippner just happens to also be on the flight, although as we go through the plot we will realise that it was very much planned.

He is the middle man in a plot to assassinate a homeland security official who is going to be staying at the hotel resort where Lisa is the manager. Thus leading her to make some very tough choices, especually as everything seemed nice and normal about Jackson before boarding the flight.

His charming nature quickly turns sinister with his attempts to get Lisa to make some changes, and this will then have a big impact on her father who is being watched and potentially killed if she does not contact her work to get everything changed to allow the assassination to take place.

The thing is this film does have plenty of tension built up and some moments of pure panic, however I have actually watched it a few times over the years and come to the conclusion that it just isn’t memorable at all. This is mainly due to wondering if I did manage to watch it all the way through or if I gave up, on this most recent viewing I realised that I had actually completed it before. Hence the two stars as I had started with three. I guess it is a little bit of a shame given the cast of Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy in the leading roles with Brian Cox in a supporting capacity.
