Megalopolis (2024) Review

The attempts to rebuild the metropolis of New Rome by Cesar Catilina a visonary architect.

⭐️

In an alternate “present day” American Republic, Cesar had been tirelessly working on a groundbreaking new building material called Megalon, which promised to revolutionize urban construction. This innovative substance was not only designed to provide exceptional durability and strength but also to be environmentally friendly, reducing the carbon footprint of new structures. With the aim of creating a bustling and futuristic city aptly named Megalopolis, Cesar envisioned towering skyscrapers that would pierce the clouds and sprawling parks that would offer respite from urban life. As he meticulously tested the properties of Megalon, he often dreamt of how this material could transform the skyline, fostering a sense of community and progress in an ever-evolving society.

The thing is though I just didn’t care at all or was even following along properly to that, because quite frankly the 2 hour and 18 minute running time of the film felt even longer than that. It’s not very often that I want to leave the cinema before the end of a film but for this one I really did want to leave.

The corrupt Major Cicero, obviously his daughter was going to end up with Cesar and in his life. Then we have Wow Platinum who just wanted to try and get herself into money, some bizare sex scene with Clodio – leading into how just awful and pathetic that character and scenes were.

I also couldn’t help but wonder how we got this true mess of a film from the legendary director of The Godfather in Francis Ford Coppola, who evidently had wanted to make this film for many years. Sorry, it just wasn’t for me at all. It’s taken nearly a week to even attempt to put words together in trying to form a review, each scene seemed to be worse and crazier than the previous as if it was only done to try and shock the audience.

A talented cast and director/writer doesn’t always work out I guess.
