After meeting on a lovely family holiday, the Dalton family head to the English countryside to meet up with the new friends they had made but everything is about to get a little bit dark.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Louise and Ben Dalton appear to have a good life with their daughter Agnes, having moved from the US to the UK and currently having a nice holiday in Europe which was seen as a bonus of living in the UK. Although we quickly see that everything isn’t as great for them as it may appear. The marriage is strained for a few different reasons and that could see everything unravel.
Paddy and Ciara with their disabled son Ant seem to be nice enough and find themselves attempting to get closer to the Dalton family. Which seemed to be really nice on holiday and they quickly invite them to the country estate and farm that they live and work on.
As a viewer we can see that something is a bit off with Paddy and his temper seems to simmer with different things happening. We then ahve Agnes who is suffering with some anxiety and her attachment to a toy bunny is something her father Ben is struggling to deal with. Also that damn bunny will make things difficult at different times thats for sure!
The sense of wonder is actually built up in a good manner, making you constantly guess and wonder what the twist is going to be. The tension created from this is the main reason the film just works; you know something is wrong and a bit off but cannot quite place what that might be. Is Paddy really a doctor like he claimed when the families first met? How does he even have the farm? Then, with Ant trying his very best to communicate with Agnes and give her a warning, I feel the need to mention that the twist is wild and not something that I would have ever thought of; this leads to a rather dramatic climax!
Overall it works very well and makes you think about people you might meet on holiday or away from home, should you instantly just trust everything and anything they say? Probably not, and after watching this film never ever again I guess! James McAvoy is absolutely brilliant from start to finish and carries the majority of the film, which I guess we have grown to expect over the years.
