Juror #2 (2024) Review

When Justin Kemp is called up for jury duty he is about to face a serious moral dilemma when it is a very high profile murder case, is everything really as it seems?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Everything within Justin’s life seems to be very good, as his wife is expecting a baby very soon, and when he is called up for jury service he does try his very best to actually get out of it. That doesn’t happen though and he is selected as one of the twelve for a very high profile murder case. As he is sat listening to the order of the night, the date and the location he is then hit with a huge realisation and a massive moral dilemma that could be used in his favour but would mean swaying the jury verdict.

There’s something quite special about courtroom dramas and the tension that can be built up and this was done in a brilliant manner. At times it felt like another version of 12 Angry Men and that can only be used as a massive compliment to the direction of the story. Plenty of small twists and as a viewer our morals are tested as well, we try to decide what we actually feel is right and wrong with the complex situation.

It also manages to highlight that being on a jury is not an easy task at all, as you are supposed to just use the facts of the case and evidence that you have been presented with and that must be a truly tough thing to do, as often a lot of questions are then left after that.

Nicholas Hoult was brilliant in this leading role and his career has been such a joy to follow, then being reunited with his on screen mother from About a Boy in Toni Collette but this time totally going against each other. Having J.K. Simmons and Kiefer Sutherland in supporting roles was certainly an added bonus. I have always enjoyed Clint Eastwood films and this was another to add to that collection, in what could be his final ever film.
