When the trouble begins to unfold Helen is supported by Sam who is brought back in to protect her and potentially take out any threats that may occur. Reed who is a handler and high up within the Black Doves had recruited Helen many years before, parts of the story are shown in flashback form. That goes for Sam as well and the events which lead to him leaving London for many years.
We are slowly shown the double life of Helen and quite frankly that is a frightening aspect, that the person you are spending your life with isn’t actually who you thought they were. Although after so many years how long does it take to actually become that life? Well, probably a little bit simpler if it wasn’t for a character like Reed.
With plenty of twists and turns to keep us guessing it is decent enough in building some suspense. I mean let’s face it who doesn’t truly enjoy anything to do with spies? Nothing is what we think even after seeing two different views, always another one it seems!
The cast for this is very impressive though with Keira Knightley taking on the leading role and Ben Whishaw taking on a big part as well, they actually created a good friendship with the characters even more so given the circumstances they were found in. Sarah Lancashire was in a smaller role but can we fully appreciate just how fantastic her career has been in the last few years? She’s certainly come a very long way from her Coronation Street days. Tracey Ullman needs a shout out for her somewhat cameo after only appearing in two episodes, although only one real big scene in one episode, what a treat that was!
