Red One (2024) Review

When Santa Claus is kidnapped the North Pole’s Head of Security Callum Drift must team up with Jack O’Malley to help track him down, in order to save Christmas!

⭐️⭐️⭐️

The opening scene sets everything up for how much Jack has never been a fan of Christmas from being a child and that then all sets him on the path to a rather difficult life and working for the highest bidder regardless of morals.

Callum had not been really feeling it anymore and spoke to Nick about leaving his role as Head of Security, or is that Santa’s bodyguard? That was his plan anyway, until he is taken and the rescue mission then unfolded. Mixing together some Christmas magic, action scenes and all types of characters Red One pushes some boundaries on what a Christmas film and story looks like.

I actually enjoyed that aspect of it, which I know won’t be for everyone who just wants everything to be traditional. Seeing Santa hitting the gym and mentioning the number of calories he will burn in that one night is not what you might expect, but I liked the humour behind that given the obsession with working out and the burn!

Anything that brings together The Rock and Chris Evans is going to be enjoyable though, they certainly did not disappoint bouncing off one another. We fully know what we are going to get from both of them in this type of film. Then throw in the legend that is J. K. Simmons as Nick/Santa and we have an entertaining film for sure, I actually also loved seeing Bonnie Hunt as Mrs Claus as let’s face it she just hasn’t been in enough films really has she!
