When 885 women jouned the army to help during World War II to fix the three year backlog of undelivered mail, they would be faced with discrimination given that this Battalion the 6888th were all black.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
During the second world war the mail which had previously been delivered not only to the troops but also back home for them and their familes had stopped, this dipped the morale and hope of the soilders. It was never going to be easy with the racism and sexism within the army towards women.
Led by Major Charity Adams who wants nothing more than to be taken seriously for the job they have been enlisted to do, while also withholding the standards of the army and looking after the women in her command. We closely follow Lena Derriecott King who joined the army after the love of her teen years had not been heard from after he had been deployed overseas and she sees this as her opportunity to make a difference.
We are given some tough going scenes with the discrimation towards the women and it is a double whammy with the racism shown as well. It is good that this story is eventually being told and everything about it is highlighted. I think on the whole though the film fell a little bit short, I was hoping it would be on a similar level to Hidden Figures.
The timing of the release was pretty good for me though coming off the back of watching Scandal meant I was more than ready for Kerry Washington content. She does well in the leading role but Ebony Obsidian steals the scenes she is in and offers the emotional nature that is required for a film like this.
