Pillow Talk (1959) Review

Jan Morrow an interior decorator must share a telephone line with playboy Brad Allen, and that creates a lot of tension when he then pretends to be a Texan to date her without her knowledge of his true identity.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jan could not cope with sharing the phone line but she could also not help herself in listening in to Brad and the many women that he would be talking to at all different times of day and night. He is very charming we will give him that, but not really a man that you would want with his behaviour. We get the classic triangle situation with Jonathan Forbes a friend of Brad attempting to woo Jan and that is where it all gets very complicated, especially with the Texan persona from Brad.

One thing I really enjoyed was the split screen method and I imagine this was possibly one of the early films to use that type of story telling and made me think of my favourite When Harry Met Sally when they used it for phone conversations as well.

Pillow Talk is a very interesting romantic comedy given that it was released in 1959, it is very clear to see which films in more recent years and decades have followed and feel like they aspire to be this charming and cute.

Doris Day really does light up the screen every single time she is on it and I really do feel that I need to catch up with more of her filmography as I really has not seen enough of her films to appreciate her. Rock Hudson had a lot of charisma too, and I feel the leading man from this time period was very similar as he gave me Cary Grant vibes. Again though I really should explore more of his work.
