A story looking at different generations who lived in a house in the same spot, everything that happened over time.
⭐️⭐️
The main story that we get within the house is that of Richard after his parents Al and Rose move into the house, and raise the family in it. We get to see all different moments over the years with different events occuring and how Margaret and Richard end up together.
The thing is though we don’t just get this families story within the house, all shots throughout the film are of the same view of the living room, although at times we are shown it before the house had even been built and yes I am sure a dinosaur was seen at one point. Some of the stories just don’t really make a lot of sense, as we are just given a couple of moments and then Covid is brought into it, although I was already pretty done by that point.
I actually found this film to be utterly depressing and therefore disappointing, I felt as though it had such a good idea at its core but bringing in every single bad thing that could happen to people and families just made me feel deflated and wondering why more positives couldn’t have been used instead. The very brief and few happy times and moments were truly overshadowed by everything that brought it down so low. I had already guessed the ending at the very start, as it was just so obvious which direction that was going in.
The use of the CGI for the aging of the characters was very odd at times as well, I mean Tom Hanks looked like he did in Big at the start and I totally then forgot until he looked older that we were having another go of Forrest and Jenny with Robin Wright being his love interest again. Anyway, I did originally rate the film as one star on Letterboxd after seeing it, but I decided it wasn’t actually as bad as other films I had rated one star. I think the overwhelming disappointment is what I can really describe this film. I feel as though Kelly Reilly was the scene stealer when it came to the performances.
