Saturday Night (2024) Review

October 11th 1975 at 11:30pm in New York City, a group of young comedians and writers would change televsion forever. This looks at a crazy behind the scenes 90 minutes before showtime!

⭐️⭐️

Now I found it a little bit tricky to get into this film as I didn’t really have much of a background knowledge on how Saturday Night Live got started or anything like that, being in the UK it isn’t a show that we have found easy to watch over the years and personally I have only seen a few different clips of sketches.

The whole film was chaotic and felt like a bit of a mess in all honesty I wasn’t even sure what was going on from scene to scene, or what the actual point of this all was? I felt that an actual documentary could have worked better to fill those gaps? I spent the majority of the time trying to work out who was playing who and trying to remember that aspect of it. It contained a few sub-plot’s which don’t really come together in the end, just more fillers between the scenes I guess.

We are taken around seeing how Lorne Michaels is coping with his idea and despite the fact that he cannot really explain what the show is, it somehow gets the go ahead even though it was actually put together to then fail. I mean it’s still going to this day so it all worked out well in the end didn’t it!
