Back in Action (2025) Review

Matt and Emily were former CIA spies who are pulled back into that world when their secret identities are exposed. The life they left behind when starting a family together, attempting to protect Alice and Leo as much as possible.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

The opening scenes sees Matt and Emily on a mission and they had crossed the line beginning a relationship with one another, which would increase the tension when working. It is all about to change though when Emily announces she is pregnant and that will see them make a big decision. Leaving that life behind to start a family.

We then move forward 14 years and they are attempting to come to grips with having a teenage daughter, Emily who is not that easy to get along with. As well as a son Leo who isn’t that much trouble yet. Getting into a fight when she goes to a club as an underaged teen would see it go viral and they are quickly found by former boss Chuck, he isn’t the only one looking for them though.

That final mission left something behind and they are pulled back into that old life. This would then see the whole family having to travel to England and meeting Ginny a grandmother they had no idea exisited. This then creates plenty of entertaining scenes as everything the kids thought about their parents was well and truly blown up. I guess no one would ever expect to find out their parents had been spies!

It has a few twists and turns with action scenes mixed in with comedy and it actually does work rather well to entertain. This was Cameron Diaz’ return to film after retiring in 2014 and I seriously didn’t realise it was that long ago since her last outing! She has great chemistry with Jamie Foxx. Glenn Close as the British mother/grandmother was quite a joy to watch in all honesty and just hilarious. McKenna Roberts and Rylan Jackson both put in impressive performances.

Naturally it is left at the end for a second instalment.
