Now that I have your attention with this quote from Jurassic Park, you read it in Jeff Goldblum’s voice didn’t you.
Just thought I would post a little update due to the lack of blog posts and film reviews. Believe it or not until Thursday (two days ago) I hadn’t been to the cinema for a month, which I actually feel is the longest I have gone in many years. That was for a few reasons really, being busy having started a new job in January, closing in on finishing my PGCE and not really wanting to see the films that had been released. Years ago I used to try and watch every single film that was released but these days I feel I make better choices for my personal prefrences when it comes to what I will actually enjoy watching.

It appears though, that Cineworld missed me in that month and have sent me a free popcorn and drink which I will natuarally be using in that 7 day period. But can we also just talk about the quality of films on offer over that past month not being very appealing, also please feel free to update me if you feel I have actually missed something good. On Thursday I caught The Penguin Lessons (with review to follow).
It’s a perilous time for cinema right now…here in the US, the entertainment coverage is focused on lack of quality films and titles that just don’t excite moviegoers, who continue to be wooed to stay home by streaming services premiering their big hits at home…in the US the latest Bridget Jones film didn’t even play theaters…

That is so sad that Bridget Jones didn’t make it to cinemas as it really was such a wonderful film!
It has been very poor.

Wow, the only time that I have gone a month wuthout going to the cinema since the mid 1980’s was during lockdown.
I actually think it has been a decent few weeks. Black Bag is my joint favourite of 2025 so far (along with September 5), and both Santosh and Sister Midnight were outstanding. I was the obly person who thought Alto Knights was excellent and I loved One of Them Days. The Penguin Lessons had surprising depth and I really liked Mr Burton. Novocaine, A Working Man and especially Drop were above average action/thrillers. Death of a Unicorn, The Monkey and The Last Breath were all worth a watch too…

Thank you for giving me your opinons on some of those films. I will see which ones I can catch up with, as I still have a few more days off work.
It wasn’t fully intentional just didn’t work out with the timings of my new job, then attending Newcastle United games as Sunday is usually my cinema day and we have had quite a few changed.
