At 2:17am last night every child from Mrs Gandy’s class woke up, got out of bed, went downstairs, opened the front door, walked into the dark and they never came back!
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Actually that wasn’t every child, it was all but one for whatever reason Alex was left. Mrs Gandy, Justine was for whatever reason was instantly targeted by the parents of each child. I guess that’s something that sums up how people feel towards teachers and education these days, let’s blame the teacher despite them all being home and in the care of their parents when it happened.
Anyway that distracted me, the plot is pretty much what we have seen in the trailer and what we are told in that opening scene. The format of the film is to then go through some of the different characters and venture into those couple of days with them, which I actually quite liked as it meant for some cliffhanger moments as we just thought we would find out a significant plot twist.
The characters are all intertwined together due to the nature of the small town, and first impressions may not be as they seem. Again that perspective shift through the characters really helps with that. I won’t spoil any of the plot, but I will say that it made me think about Longlegs and it comes with a similar hype. You can also throw in a little of The Supstance as well, you know just for good measure. Also poor little Alex is so brave!
I guess overall I was just expecting more from a film that seemed genuinely creepy and was going to touch on the psychological style horror, but that was massively short for me. It does throw in some gore, and I will admit that I did cover my eyes at one point. Julia Garner put in an impressive performance, with Josh Brolin and Alden Ehrenreich being very good as well, with Amy Madigan being the total scene-stealer! Credit must go to Cary Christopher who was wonderful as Alex.
