Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale (2025) Review

When Mary finds herself in a public scandal and the family face financial trouble the whole household grapples with the threat of becoming social outcasts. The Crawleys must begin to embrace the next chapter and growing with the changes in society.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Let’s face it Lady Mary has always brought so much drama, hasn’t she! Well that does not stop with this third and final film installment as part of the Downton Abbey series. Her choice in men as usual is not the best and another attempting to blackmail her in Gus Sambrook who we just instantly know is not a nice character at all.

I loved the addition of having Noel Coward appear and a sneaky little link into one of his most successful plays Private Lives. Whilst also giving us more of Guy Dexter, although both of them should have been given more screentime right!

The final chapter is exactly that, passing across to the new generation in both settings. Within the family and the help, showing some nice endings for much loved and appreciated characters. This is totally for fans of the tv series and won’t really make a lot of sense if you have not seen it all. it really does have some lovely moments though and for that reason is why I have given it quite a high rating.

As a secondary comment I felt as though the tribute to Dame Maggie Smith was dripped in throughout, allowing many mentions and that amazing portrait on the wall. My favourite mention had to be about the weekend considering the now rather legendary “what is a weekend?” Line she had in the series.
