Bugonia (2025) Review

When two conspirarcy obsessed men, Teddy and Don abduct Michelle the high powered CEO of a major company after becoming convinced that she is an alien who is intent on destroying planet Earth.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When Teddy’s obession reaches a point of no return, the planning to abduct Michelle is something that once he does it, he can’t really stop that process. Using his cousin Don who doesn’t really fully understand, well anything at all. He is convinced that she is part of a malignant alien species which is known as the Andromedans, and wants to drive them from planet Earth.

Everything we have seen of Michelle, shows that she is highly accomplished within her field and being the CEO for a pharmaceutical company. An amazing house, an impressive car and very organised. Being abducted and placed in Teddy’s basement was a wild moment that is for sure.

I had no idea at all what I was getting myself in for when heading to the cinema to this film, and in a lot of ways I think that can actually be seen as a positive. I think it made the storyline more impressive, even if moments annoyed me a lot during different scenes. Although I guess that was a good thing, because of how it was built up and put across in terms of the twists and turns.

One thing I was sure of is that it was going to be quite a wild ride having Yorgos Lanthimos at the helm. I was prepared for that, I wasn’t prepared to have my opinion change throughout and the doubt creeping in, powerful filmmaking at its finest. Even if early on I was thinking the film just wasn’t for me.

That final sequence and scene utterly blew me away as I was not expecting anything like that at all. Emma Stone confirming once again why she is one of my favourites and that I really will see anything and everything she is in, she does not shy away from any type of role which is just great. Jesse Plemons was also impressive, even if I pretty much hated his character for the majority of the film.
