Anaconda (2025) Review

A group of friends who are deeply unhappy with their lives, decide that they should remake their favourite film from their youth. That being Anaconda from 1997, once they enter the jungle though, anything can happen.

Firstly I want to apologise, before even getting into the review and explaining or at least attempting to explain just why I gave this one star and quite frankly disliked the whole thing. It wasn’t even on my list of films to go and see at the cinema, however our Boxing Day release schedule was not the best and was left with no real choice other than this one. But you know Paul Rudd is usually decent and I still try and believe Jack Black is as well, but came to the conclusion that only School of Rock is good.

Anyway.

Anaconda, maybe the fact that I haven’t actually seen the 1997 film didn’t help? (If anyone would care to enlighten me on that aspect in the comments that would be great).

Early on though I thought it could have some comedy potential at the very least but none of it worked for me and just seemed to be the next ridiculous moment would be even worse than the previous. Now, in more recent years I have made for the most part very good choices on the films I see at the cinema and quite frankly it was such a shame that I got so close to the end of the year and saw this on 28th December.

Another factor that made me concerned early on was Steve Zahn being in the film, as I don’t think I have ever seen him in anything I like. Sorry Steve, I know its not his fault that he just has many films in the genre I am not a big fan. At this point as well I am wondering if Jack Black has become a parody of himself?

I mean this in the nicest way possible this film just was not for me. I know it will have an audience though, maybe I pity myself that a film like this doesn’t give me any joy at all.
