The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026) Review

Mario must venture into space, exploring the different cosmic worlds far from the Mushroom Kingdom.

⭐️⭐️

Within the story we are about to find out more about Princess Peach and where she came from, this is probably the main aspect of the film as she must battle to save her sister Rosalina. We are shown an opening scene of Rosalina in a different kingdom and how everything was about to fall apart and this would then lead to Mario having to get involved.

We see Bowser Jr. trying to become a huge villain and find his father to restore him to his normal size. This quest highlights his determination and ambition, as he navigates through various challenges and obstacles in the hopes of earning his father’s respect and reclaiming their family’s legacy. I guess some of these scenes with Bowser Sr. show that he had actually started to change in a positive way, indicating a potential shift in his character that could affect their dynamic. Although, was he really going to be able to change that much? I mean, probably not, considering his long history and established ways. It’s a struggle that raises questions about whether true transformation is possible.

Overall it felt very disjointed and quite frankly Mario and Lugi being part of it all didn’t really make a massive amount of sense. We then are given Yoshi as a new character, who doesn’t really add anything other than being quite cute.

Disappointment is probably the main feeling that I ended up with from this film, as I throughly enjoyed the first one. I was hoping this would extend upon that, but instead we had a lacklustre story which was not all that entertaining at all. Visually though the film still looked great and the highlight was once again the old school video game moments within scenes.
