Roberts’ Rude Tribute To Pal Hanks

Only Jules could get away with saying something like this !!!

Julia Roberts paid a bizarre X-rated tribute to acting pal Tom Hanks at a New York gala in his honour on Monday night.

Hanks was the guest of honour at the Film Society of Lincoln Center Gala Tribute, attended by a star-studded audience of friends and former colleagues.

After entertainment, including a performance by Bruce Springsteen and his wife Patti Scialfa, Roberts, who appeared alongside Hanks in 2007 movie Charlie Wilson’s War, stepped onstage to toast her pal with a hilarious, foul-mouthed rant.

After starting with the line, “Ok, it’s late and I’m paying my babysitter overtime and I have to pee,” the Pretty Woman star noted, “Everybody f**king likes you”, and then complimented Hanks’ wife Rita Wilson‘s breasts, figure and perfect butt before giving a critique of some of the star’s less acclaimed movies.

She joked, “Tom Hanks, what the f**k? Bosom buddies, people… (I’m a) big fan, big fan. I saw Turner and Hooch, The Money Pit… You in the airport with the accent (The Terminal) – it was a pass for me.”

She then added, “I’m wearing the same f**king dress, tonight, as your publicist!”

But Roberts ended on a sincere note, telling Hanks and the audience, “I love you. You do something that two other people on the planet do… Tom can walk into any room and make you feel like you’re in your living room, make you feel comfortable… make you feel like there’s a reason you’re on the planet. That’s a true gift. That’s not acting… it’s heart and compassion.”

Spacey Visits Abramoff Behind Bars

I think this is really interesting to see what different actors do to prepare for a role. Plus I love Kevin Spacey a lot !!!

Actor Kevin Spacey visited a federal prison in Maryland on Monday to meet with disgraced Washington, D.C. lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

The two-time Oscar winner is preparing to play Abramoff in a new movie.

Con man Abramoff is serving time behind bars for his part in an influence-peddling scandal in the heart of American politics.

The 50-year-old businessman is scheduled to be released at the end of 2011.

He pleaded guilty to three criminal felony counts in a Washington, D.C., federal court in January, 2006.

Abramoff was charged in the defrauding of American Indian tribes and corruption of public officials.

Rourke Broke His Hand Wrestling Jericho

Awwww poor Mickey !!!

Mickey Rourke‘s wrestling match with Chris Jericho was no easy victory – the actor walked out of the ring with a broken hand.

Rourke went head-to-head with the professional grappler earlier this month at the WWE’s Wrestlemania 25 in Houston, Texas, following a bitter and public war of words with Jericho.

The star, who won a string of awards for his performance in The Wrestler, stunned fans after standing up from his seat in the crowd to clamber over the guard ropes and deliver a punch that left Jericho reeling.

But although Rourke admits he played up the smackdown for the cameras, he was left with a fracture in his hand.

He tells the New York Daily News, “I’m all healed up now. I kept my hand open when I punched so I wouldn’t hurt him.”

And Rourke insists he and his fellow tough man have resolved their dispute off-camera: “Chris and I went out for drinks after. We’re all good now.”

Tatum To Sink His Teeth Into Eclipse Role?

I would just love this !!!

Heartthrob Robert Pattinson is facing some serious competition – movie bosses are eyeing pin-up Channing Tatum for a lead role in the vampire franchise’s third outing Eclipse.

Pattinson has become one of Hollywood’s hottest young stars since he landed the role of bloodsucker Edward Cullen in Twilight.

But it could be time for the young Brit to stand in the sidelines – screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg is desperate to sign former model Tatum as nasty vampire Riley.

She tells E! Online, “There’s a very big battle at the end with Riley, and I think Channing would do that so well.

“And there are some complexities to that character. He really is tragic. He’s a puppet for Victoria (vampire character). So he has to break your heart a little bit at the end when he realises that she doesn’t want him. Channing could do that beautifully.”

Jackman Considered Quitting X-men

I bet he is glad he did not quit !!!

Australian actor Hugh Jackman contemplated walking away from the X-men franchise after the third movie – because he feared his character Wolverine had gone too “soft”.

Jackman reprises his role as the superhero in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the fourth movie of the cult series.

But the film almost didn’t happen, because after Jackman had completed 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand he considered stepping down from the role amid concerns over his character’s development.

He says, “One thing I never felt we got with Wolverine that I really wanted to get is that berserker rage which is talked about in the comic books.

“It felt like Wolverine had got a little soft by X-Men 3 and I wanted to take it back to that bad a** quality. He’s tough, he’s gruff, he’s not politically correct – he doesn’t say the right things.

“There has to be complexity to this character. He’s very tough but there’s a lot of pain, history to his life that you find out about. It’s not pretty. He’s a flawed character. That’s what I like about it, that’s why I’m doing it for the fourth time or else I wouldn’t.”

Nicholson Talks At Daughter’s University

This is like the coolest thing EVER !!!

Hollywood heavyweight Jack Nicholson made a special visit to his daughter’s university campus on Saturday to discuss his acting career with students.

Nicholson was part of a panel including producers Robert Evans, Brad Grey and former studio boss Peter Bart, which hosted the Ivy League Film Festival session at Rhode Island’s Brown University.

Students were shown clips of movies the four have been involved with and lectured on loyalty and artistic integrity, reports the New York Post.

After the panel, Nicholson got the chance to catch up with 19-year-old Lorraine, his daughter with ex-girlfriend Rebecca Broussard.

Pattinson Became An Actor To Pick Up Women

I would imagine he would have no trouble picking up women now.

Hollywood heartthrob Robert Pattinson decided to become an actor after his dad convinced him it would help him pick up women.

The 22-year-old is among Tinseltown’s hottest new stars, thanks to his lead role in cult vampire franchise Twilight.

But he may never have been an actor at all, had his dad not pushed him to try his hand at London’s Barnes Theatre Company – so he could hang out with girls.

Pattinson says, “(My dad) saw a bunch of pretty girls who were going to it. (He) said: ‘Hey Rob, you’ve got to go to that.’ That’s the reason I still do it!”

Golden Girls Pay Tribute To Arthur

Awwww I think its lovely that they have paid tribute to Bea. The Golden Girls is one of my favorite TV shows. ❤

Veteran actresses Betty White and Rue McClanahan have paid tribute to their Golden Girls co-star Bea Arthur, who died on Saturday.

The actress passed away peacefully in her sleep at her Los Angeles home after losing her battle with cancer aged 86, according to personal assistant Dan Watt.

Arthur, who starred in the hit show from 1985 until 1992, won an Emmy Award for her role as Dorothy Zbornak in the sitcom, which chronicled the lives of three retirees in Miami.

And co-stars White and McClanahan fondly recall the seven happy years they spent with Arthur on the series.

McClanahan tells Entertainment Tonight. “(Thirty-seven) years ago she showed me how to be very brave in playing comedy. I’ll miss that courage. And I’ll miss that voice.”

White adds, “I knew it would hurt, I just didn’t know it would hurt this much. I’m so happy that she received her Lifetime Achievement Award while she was still with us, so she could appreciate that.

“Bea was such an important part of a very happy time in my life and I have dearly loved her for a very long time. How lucky I was to know her.”

Born in 1922, Arthur grew up in New York and earned a degree as a medical laboratory technician, before enrolling in a drama course at the New School of Social Research in the city.

She shot to fame in her twenties with numerous stage roles and won critical acclaim for her performance in a 1964 production of Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway.

Arthur also landed a Tony Award for her turn as Vera Charles in 1966 musical Mame – and composer Jerry Herman was taken aback by her natural acting ability and comic timing.

He says, “There was no one else like Bea. She would make us laugh during Mame rehearsals with a look or with a word. She didn’t need dialogue. I don’t know if I can say that about any other person I ever worked with.”

The actress moved on to television in her fifties and won the starring role in 1970s show Maude, for which she also won a coveted Emmy Award, before landing her part in The Golden Girls.

Arthur married twice – first to producer and director Robert Alan Aurthur and then to director Gene Saks from 1950 to 1978. The couple adopted two sons.

She is survived by a sister, her children Matthew and Daniel and two granddaughters.

Obsessed Tops U.S. Box Office

Interesting I wasnt really expecting this to go straight to number 1 in the box office.

Beyonce Knowles’ new movie Obsessed has romped to the top of the U.S. box office chart with opening weekend (24-26Apr09) takings of $28.5 million (£19.65 million)

The thriller stars Knowles and Idris Elba as a couple targetted by a crazed office temp, played by Heroes star Ali Larter.

Obsessed bumped 17 Again from the top spot; the Zac Efron comedy slid down to second place with earnings of $11.665 million (£8.04 million).

Fighting landed third place with $11.441 million followed by Jamie Foxx‘s new movie The Soloist, which managed a disappointing $9.715 million (£7.81 million).

Disney feature Earth rounded out the top five with $8.554 million (£5.89 million) – the best ever opening for a nature movie.

Streep Picked For Lifetime Achievement Award

She totally deserves it, she has done so much over the years. And I am sure she will keep going for quite a long time yet.

Meryl Streep is set to rule the Rome Film Festival – she will be honoured with the top award to mark her outstanding career.

The Out of Africa star will receive the Marcus Aurelius Lifetime Achievement Award, which has previously been bestowed upon industry legends such as Sir Sean Connery and Al Pacino.

Streep will reflect upon her four decades as she hosts an on-stage discussion for the event’s guests, sharing insights acquired throughout her lengthy career.

The fourth annual Rome Film Festival is scheduled to run from 15 to 23 October.
