Jackson Is A Grump On Set

Everyone just has to love Samuel L Jackson and I dont think it would matter if he was a little grumpy on set.

Veteran actor Samuel L. Jackson has embraced turning 60 years old – because he can now be a grumpy old man on film sets.

The Pulp Fiction star has showed little sign of slowing down his movie career since hitting the landmark age in December.

But his committed work ethic often leaves him disappointed with younger colleagues who refuse to toil as hard as he does.

Jackson says, “See, I have this unreasonable expectation that everyone is going to be as prepared as I am when I show up for work. I’m becoming more unreasonable as I grow older.”

And he insists it is inexperienced filmmakers who annoy him most, adding: “Most times the actors know what they’ve got to do; it’s young directors from the video world who drive me crazy. I know the shots will probably be used as DVD extras. But when I say this, the young guys stare at me like I’m being evil.”

Bill Nighy and Kate Winslet

Yes I have a strange thing for Bill Nighy and just love Kate Winslet. I have just come across this picture, so had to blog about it.

It was taken at some awards show in January 2009. I don’t know which one, must have been some British awards I reckon. But I just adore Bill, mainly from his role as Billy Mack in ‘Love Actually’.

Mickey Rourke cleans up his act – and buys a new dog

Because I have lacked any Mickey Rourke posts and news over the past couple of days. He has got a new job and rid of his goatee.

It looks like the shock of not winning an Oscar has forced Mickey Rourke to clean up his act.

The former hellraiser, 56, has shaved off his famous goatee and brought a new pooch to replace Loki, his beloved chihuahua who died a few days before Sunday’s Oscar ceremony.

Rourke wore a necklace with a picture of Loki to the star-studded bash, which saw him lose out to Sean Penn in the best actor category.

Just before the ceremony he said that he would have traded an Oscar win for more time with his dog.

“It’s bittersweet. I said to myself I’d rather have Loki for another two years than an Oscar. And I told her that. But she stayed as long as she could, you know,” he said on the red carpet.

ShoWest 2009 – Efron Named Breakthrough Star

Zac Efron will recieve the 2009 Breakthrough Star award at ShoWest.

High School Musical star Zac Efron will be honoured as the ShoWest breakthrough performer of the year at the annual cinema owners’ convention in Las Vegas in April.

ShoWest managing director Mitch Neuhauser insists the young star, 21, was an easy choice this year as he prepares to take on the big-screen after the success of the musical franchise with new comedy 17 Again.

Neuhauser says, “When Zac Efron made his debut with the cast of Hairspray at ShoWest 2007, many in attendance took notice of this young actor’s incredible talent. His undeniable onscreen presence and charm have connected with fans around the world.”

Efron will be celebrated at an awards gala set to close ShoWest on 2 April.

Previously announced 2009 ShoWest honorees include Sienna Miller, Chris Pine and Bradley Cooper.

Blanchett Lands Maid Marian Role Opposite Crowe

Cate Blanchett is one of my favorite actresses. I love Robin Hood movies, so hopefully this will be good 🙂

Aussie actress Cate Blanchett is to play Maid Marian opposite Russell Crowe‘s Robin Hood in a new movie about the Medieval hero.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button star will replace Sienna Miller in the epic, which will be directed by Brit Ridley Scott.

Shooting on the movie, originally titled Nottingham, will begin in Britain in April.

Daily Variety reports the film’s budget will be $130 million (£89.6 million).

Eastwood Handed Cannes Festival Honour

Well done to Clint Eastwood!!!

Screen legend Clint Eastwood received a special Cannes Film Festival lifetime achievement honour on Wednesday.

The Dirty Harry star was presented with the Palme d’Or award by Festival President Gilles Jacob at a private ceremony in Paris, in recognition of his successful movie career.

And Eastwood was delighted to become only the second person to receive the prestigious honour from the organisers.

He says, “I’m very, very flattered that you’ve chosen me for this. French cineastes have always been very supportive of me along the way. When I directed my first movie, French cineastes and critics encouraged me, while in my own country, everyone was much more reticent. France is the first country to approach and appreciate cinema as an art form.”

Cannes Film Festival bosses have only ever handed out one other lifetime achievement Palme d’Or honour – to Ingmar Bergman in 1997.
