BAFTA Awards 2021 – Longlist!

Yesterday BAFTA released the longlist of films that are going forward to round 2 of voting for this years awards! I have to admit a couple of surprises I reckon but always really interesting that they release this information.

BEST FILM
15 films go through to the Round Two of voting, and five will be nominated. This is the only category voted for by all film voting members in all voting rounds. 244 films were submitted for consideration.

OUTSTANDING BRITISH FILM
20 films will go through to Round Two of voting. The top five films from the opt-in chapter vote in Round One automatically receive a nomination. The next ranking 15 films will be considered by a jury, who will vote for five nominations. 10 films will be nominated in this category. In Round Three, the general voting membership will select the winner in this category. 74 films were submitted for consideration, all of which passed the BFI Diversity Standards.

After picking up Outstanding British Film at the start of the awards show it has done the double and picked up the Best Film – 1917!

BAFTA 2020 – Leading Actress – Renée Zellweger

She really has been picking up all the awards for Judy, love her mention of Jessie Buckley who also starred in Judy and a fellow nominee for Wild Rose. I am a big Renée Zellweger fan!

Another award for Joaquin Phoenix for his outstanding performance in Joker. Very strange speech … In terms of timing for talking about this issue.
