Oscars 2016 – Best Actor

oscars-1_zpsex6yqsek

This year it seems as though only one actor has been nominated in a leading role the incredible Leonardo DiCaprio who looks to be getting ready to eventually get his very own Oscar. But four other men are nominated as well just incase you either forgot or didn’t actually know that more had been nominated! This category always leaves me disappointed as my favourite doesn’t often win . . .

Oscars 2016 – Best Actress

oscars-1_zpsex6yqsek

Always a very interesting award highlight the best leading performances by an actress if they have not been put into the supporting category! Honestly it happens every year, although before looking at each performance individually I will admit that I think this is a pretty poor year for who has been nominated for the leading role performances.

Oscars 2016 – Best Supporting Actor

oscars-1_zpsex6yqsek

This is usually a category which has a very clear run away winner I don’t actually think it is the same this year. Different actors seem to have been picking up the supporting award making it a little bit more interesting than previous years. I think I am pretty happy with all of the nominees as thought they all put in good performances.

Oscars 2016 – Best Supporting Actress

oscars-1_zpsex6yqsek

The main problem for this category in my opinion is that two of the nominees (Mara and Vikander) weren’t actually in a supporting role and were actually leading roles. I am pretty sure a lot of people will agree on that especially if you have seen the performances.

Oscars 2016 – Best Picture

oscars-1_zpsex6yqsek

I have managed to see 7 out of the 8 films nominated for Best Picture, which is pretty disappointing considering I bought Mad Max a few weeks ago and struggled to get into it and haven’t had a chance to properly watch it! Honestly I will get round to it eventually. So here are my thoughts on each of the films that have been nominated for the big one!

Why I’m Pleased Brooklyn is Nominated for Best Picture!

As we are all very aware the Oscar Nominations for 2016 were announced a few days ago. This year will see eight films battle it out for Best Picture, with The Revenant being the current favourite to win the award. At this current moment in time I have only seen half of them.  But plan to see Room in the next week and then Spotlight and The Big Short when they are released in the UK in next few weeks. I will have to buy Mad Max: Fury Road to catch up with that one!

The Big Short
Bridge of Spies
Brooklyn
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Martian
The Revenant

Oscars 2016 – Nominations

2014-01-16-Academy-Awards-Oscars-Generic-jpg

Here we go the nominations for the 2016 Oscars!

Still seen as the biggest awards in film and most prestigious, maybe a couple of surprises in terms of not getting a nomination but the majority is probably expected. Maybe the Academy should release the nominations before the rest of the awards and it wouldn’t be as easy to try and predict them? I will be doing plenty of posts for the big awards once I have seen the rest of the films, we have a busy couple of weeks coming up in the UK!

Mad Max: Fury Road
The Martian

Oscars 2015 – Live Blog!

This will be updated with live blogging from the 2015 Oscars . . . As long as I can stay awake of course . . .

Oscars 2015 – Best Actress

This is where it gets a little disappointing as I have only seen three out of the five nominated performances for this category. I don’t even remember hearing about ‘Two Days, One Night’ when that was released back in the summer in the UK. We are waiting for ‘Still Alice’ to be released which comes out in March sometime. So I will only be able to offer my thoughts on the other three nominees and look forward to seeing ‘Still Alice’ when it is released as well as trying to catch ‘Two Days, One Night’. Although you will probably know that only one actress is getting talked about when it comes to this category!

Oscars 2015 – Best Actor

Now for Best Actor in a Leading Role, once again I have managed to see all of these films and this category certainly does have some very strong performances. Apart from Cooper they are all first time Oscar nominees, which I think is a pretty nice thing really. Showing that new and old talent is being rewarded, two Brits in this category as well which lets face it has been mentioned absolutely loads on UK TV over the past few weeks. I am certainly hoping for an upset in this one in all honesty, I just hope it’s not so nailed on and straight forward.
