Moving onto my other favorite actress. And All That Jazz. I love Chicago, I love Velma Kelly, I love Catherine. Her reaction to winning, “The Scotsman giving the Welshgirl”. Fantastic !!! Go Britain !!! I think its such a good little speech.
Oscars 2001 – Julia Roberts Speech
Seeing clips from previous Oscar winners the other night, inspired me to look at my favorite actors/actresses winning an Oscar. So decided to start with Julia. I just love how emotional she gets it fantastic, and how she shhhh’s the orchestra. “I may never be up here again”. I really hope she does get up there again. I also love how Kevin Spacey presents the award, another favorite.
Oscars 2009 – Vanity Fair Party Pictures
Some pictures from the Vanity Fair Party.

Oscars 2009 – Favorite Moment
So this so should have been Mickey Rourke winning the best actor award, but as that didn’t happen my favorite moment had to be Kate Winslet winning. But not just that, the way she grabbed Angelina Jolie’s hand on the way past. As seen in this picture:

Oscars 2009 – Favorite Picture
This just has to be my favorite picture from the 2009 Oscars. Don’t let her steal it Kate !!! haha. Brilliant picture of two fantastic actresses, and now both are Oscar winners :-). Kate just looks so happy to be standing talking to Meryl (and who wouldn’t?!?!).

Oscars 2009 – After Thoughts
So after having a night to read other people’s views and opinions on the 2009 Oscars. I decided to now see my view on the whole show and how the awards went. Now looking at who won what, it really was the most predictable Oscar night in recent memory. The only real shock was Sean Penn winning for ‘Milk’ as yes he was good but Mickey Rourke in ‘The Wrestler’ was incredible. Mickey really should have walked away with the Oscar.
The other complaint I now have is best original screenplay, yes ‘Milk’ had a good screenplay but it was all based on the real events and actual words Harvey Milk spoke so that isn’t totally original (yes I know some of it would have been put in my the writer). But a real gem of an original screenplay was ‘In Bruges’ totally unique and different from anything that has been done before. It should have been recognised for how clever, funny and heartfelt the whole story was. It is a film which has everything and one of my favorite films of last year.
Lets hope that next year, it will be more uncertain who is going to take home which award. A bit more competition and that the academy actually picks the best 5 films of the year to compete for best picture.
Milk Party Axed Before Penn’s Win
It’s quite sad that they wrote off any hopes of winning. Turned out to be a good night with ‘Milk’ winning Best Original Screenplay for Dustin Lance Black and Best Actor for Sean Penn.
The producers of Milk were so convinced they would lose out at the Academy Awards on Sunday, they reportedly cancelled a planned post-ceremony party.
The biopic, which stars Sean Penn as assassinated American politician and gay rights activist Harvey Milk, was nominated in eight categories at this year’s Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for Gus Van Sant.
The film’s bosses predicted their heavyweight competition Slumdog Millionaire and The Wrestler would take home gold – and axed their celebrations as a result, reports The New York Post gossip column PageSix.
But the cancellation proved unwise after Sean Penn beat The Wrestler favourite Mickey Rourke to take home the Best Actor statuette.
Oscars 2009 – Vanity Fair Party – Michael Douglas
So Michael Douglas was one of the suprise presenters and I was happy. I love Michael. I was hoping Catherine Zeta Jones would be with him, but it looks like he took his father Kirk Douglas as his date to the Vanity Fair after show party.

Oscars 2009- The Winners Pictures
So the big winners for the acting awards were, Sean Penn, Kate Winslet, Heath Ledger and Penelope Cruz.

Oscars 2009 – The Show Pictures
So, I found the whole show fantastic and very well put together. Yes, it was probably a little less formal than previous years but maybe that is a good thing at this point in time. My favorite new thing was the whole 5 previous winners of the acting awards for each category introducing and presenting the nominees then the winner of this years award. I hope this is an idea that will follow on for many years to come.
