Monty Python 2014

On Saturday 5th July 2014, I will be sat in The O2 Arena in London watching Monty Python!

With only one date officially announced for when the tickets went on sale yesterday it was going to be an impossible task to buy tickets. Especially when it sold out within 45 seconds. Quickly 4 more dates were added to take the total to 5 shows. We are going to the Saturday and final night thanks to the brilliant efforts of one of my friends who was given the task of getting tickets! We even took the risk and booked a hotel on Sunday night for the original date of the Tuesday, luckily just a small fee to change to the Saturday!

So . . . always look on the bright side of life!

Cats (2013 UK Tour) Review

This is not only a review of Cats, it is also a view from the front row, so close we could smell the face paint. Yes really we could smell the face paint, I even had the rum tugger come and sit next to me with his arm around me! I was rather embarrassed as really did not know what to do. But incredible sitting in the front row as many of the cats run past you and do actions towards the audience.

Rocky Horror (UK Tour) Sunderland

After what felt like such a long wait from 2009 the last time I saw the Rocky Horror on the stage, last night I eventually got my 4th viewing of this fantastic fun rock n roll show.  This is different to any other musical you will see on the stage, the audience love it, it has a cult following. So its Friday night and starts at 8:30, I still haven’t got myself dressed up (I will next time, I promise) but so many people are dressed as all the different characters and you know it’s going to be a fun night.

Panto: Dick Whittington – The Customs House 2012 Review

At Christmas time in the UK you have to go and see a Pantomime . . . Why? Well it’s Christmasy, lots of fun and it’s just something that we do. I have been going to see a Panto since I can remember. My favorite has always been at my local theatre The Customs House in South Shields.

Oliver! (2012 UK Tour) Review

I have certainly managed to fit in a quite a few shows this year, and already booked up for plenty next year. I caught Oliver! on one of the last performances in Newcastle at the Theatre Royal, on the Friday night after a long stay. After seeing the show I can really understand why it had a long run in Newcastle (and the other places on the tour) due to the incredible stage set up and props used for the different scenes. It was forever changing and it really added to a fantastic show containing many much-loved songs.

Jesus Christ Superstar (2012 Tour)

Jesus Christ Superstar made its appearance in Newcastle at the Metro Radio Arena as part of it’s fantastic 2012 Arena tour. After a nationwide search was put out on TV in a search for Jesus Christ (I must admit that I did not watch very much of the TV show, saw small parts so had seen the winner Ben Forster sing). But other than the title song and I Don’t Know How To Love Him I didn’t know any of the other songs. Obviously everyone knows the story of Jesus, and how he sacrificed himself. But how this is worked into the songs is very clever!

Steel Magnolias (2012 UK Tour) Review

Going to see one of my favorite films on the stage in play was quite a strange experience as I really wasn’t sure how they would pull it off. I have to say I was very impressed with the method in which they do this, having only one setting. That being the beauty salon which worked extremely well. With just having one setting it was  extremely important that the acting was brilliant, the change of time and events had to be shown from the characters reactions and how they felt.

Blood Brothers (2012 UK Tour) Review

The story of the Johnstone twins who were separated at birth. One given away to be brought up by an upper class family. Giving him the life his twin would never have. Their paths keep crossing and everything is done to keep them apart.

We are shown them dead at the very start of the show, so we know it is not going to be a nice happy ended. The first act really was lighthearted in the places and had some very funny moments when the boys were young. The second act is very different and takes some very emotional turns.

Theatre Moment 2

The second theatre moment I am posting, is from the “Hey, Mr Producer” show which was in tribute to everything Cameron Mackintosh had done for musical theatre. This is “You Gotta Get a Gimmick” from Gypsy featuring Bernadette Peters, Julia McKenzie and Ruthie Henshall.

Theatre Moment 1

As I am a huge musical theatre fan. I decided that I would find some of my favorite songs from the stage, and every now and then make a post about them. The first theatre moment as they shall be called, is a duet from “Mame” featuring two of my most favorite actresses, the late Bea Arthur and Angela Lansbury. They are both just so fantastic and this song/video is just great. I love it!
