Banderas Next Big-name Added To Allen Cast

Another name added to Woody Allen’s next film, which will begin filming in the summer. Shaping up to have a very good cast, hopefully it will have a good story and plot.

Movie heartthrob Antonio Banderas has joined the star-studded cast in legendary filmmaker Woody Allen‘s next picture.

The Legend of Zorro star will star in the as-yet-untitled project alongside Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts and Slumdog Millionaire newcomer Freida Pinto.

Allen has yet to reveal any plot details about the forthcoming film – but shooting is scheduled to start in London this summer.

Blanchett Lands Maid Marian Role Opposite Crowe

Cate Blanchett is one of my favorite actresses. I love Robin Hood movies, so hopefully this will be good 🙂

Aussie actress Cate Blanchett is to play Maid Marian opposite Russell Crowe‘s Robin Hood in a new movie about the Medieval hero.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button star will replace Sienna Miller in the epic, which will be directed by Brit Ridley Scott.

Shooting on the movie, originally titled Nottingham, will begin in Britain in April.

Daily Variety reports the film’s budget will be $130 million (£89.6 million).

Ledger’s Last Film Waiting For U.S. Buyers

I would not have expected Heath’s last film to be struggling like this. I thought it would find a major distrubutor with no problem at all. I hope it gets sorted out and gets a big release in the end.

Heath Ledger’s final film The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus is facing a limited U.S. release as bosses struggle to land a deal with a major distributor.

Executives have been searching for six months for backers in America but are having difficulty finding a company to release the experimental movie, which features late actor Ledger as a travelling magician.

And American audiences may not have easy access to the independent project as a result of the marketing difficulties.

An industry source tells Reuters, “This movie stars Heath Ledger in his final performance – it will get a deal and come out in the U.S. But it’s no accident that it’s taking this long.”

Allen Hires Watts As His New Muse

So that’s Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins and now Naomi Watts confirmed for Woody Allen’s next film.

Naomi Watts is eager to follow in the footsteps of Oscar winner Penelope Cruz – she has signed to star in Woody Allen’s latest movie.

The Aussie actress has been cast in the as-yet-untitled film alongside Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins and will start shooting the project in London in Summer.

Cruz received critical acclaim for her turn in Allen’s latest film Vicky Cristina Barcelona – winning the Best Supporting actress trophy at the Oscars on Sunday.

Iron Man 2: Downey Wants Rourke

I would really love to see Mickey in Iron Man 2 and I hope that Robert Downey Jr could possibly persuade him to do it.

The Iron Man reveals his desire to have The Wrestler as part of the sequel cast.

Whilst chatting with the E! channel’s Ryan Seacrest, during last night’s OSCAR red carpet coverage, Robert Downey Jnr revealed his thoughts on the casting for the sequel to Iron Man.

When probed by the American Idol host about the possibility of fellow OSCAR nominee Mickey Rourke appearing in the follow~up to last year’s box office comic book hit, the Tropic Thunder actor said, “We want him.”

Downey Jnr went on to add that they (the production team) had hoped to have Rourke on board before the star~studded ceremony in Los Angeles yesterday but varying schedules interfered.

New in Town (2009)

This movie comes out in the UK on Friday. I will be going straight to see it. It looks like it is going to be a very enjoyable romantic comedy. (Although after watching the rubbish that was “He’s just not that into you” anything could be good). But this really does look funny, and Renee Zellweger does romantic comedies very well see “Bridget Jones Diary” and even “Down with Love”.

Is Mickey Rourke Back In ‘Iron Man 2’?

I really hope he is back in for “Iron Man 2”

Earlier this week, Splash Page reported on the latest in what’s become a string of make-your-head-spin “Iron Man 2’” casting rumors, as Mickey Rourke declared that he was dropping out of the “Iron Man” sequel, simply stating that, “Right now, we’re not doing ‘Iron Man 2.’”

However — if a report on Entertainment Weekly can be trusted — there still may be a glimmer of hope for fans who were looking forward to seeing the Oscar-nominated actor take a turn as one of ol’ Shellhead’s rogues. According to unnamed sources, the offer by Marvel Entertainment made to Rourke still stands, adding “nothing’s yet being negotiated.”

As mentioned, Rourke has become just the latest in a series of “are they in or are they out?” casting rumors regarding the sequel to 2008’s “Iron Man,” and speculation has been running rampant that it might have to do with money-saving initiatives that include asking A-list actors and actresses to take on roles for as little as $250,000. (On a side note, we know some people who would play Marvel’s superheroes in a feature film for half that price, by the way. Heck, they’d do it for free.)

These rumored initiatives might have already cost them fan-favorite actor Samuel L. Jackson, who said he might not return to the role of Nick Fury in future Marvel films (although the actor never stated his exact reasons, he did hint at an “economic crisis” at Marvel).

In any event, be sure to keep it locked to Splash Page for the latest “Iron Man 2’ developments.

The Damned United (2009)

I first encountered “The Damned United” a few years back now when I read the book after borrowing it from a Leeds United fan who was very passionate in hate for Brian Clough, because of what he done in such a short time at the club. 44 days in fact. The book was a fantastic read, written in a very interesting method. I had told a few people who are football fans that they should read the book. That was before I had even heard that a film was being made. I was very excited to hear when it was announced a film would be made.

Then to see Michael Sheen was taking on the role of Cloughie. They really could not have found a better actor to take the role. Sheen was incredible as Tony Blair in “The Queen” and as David Frost in “Frost/Nixon” so how incredible for him to eventually take to centre stage as one of the greatest characters to ever grace the world of football.

I have now seen the trailer a few times in the cinema now and really think this is the film I am most anticipating over the next few months. The support cast is fantastic as well, including Colm Meany taking on the role of Don Revie(I had the privilege to see Meany in the play “Moon For the Misbegotten” with him playing opposite Kevin Spacey in 2007, and he was incredible). Timothy Spall portraying Peter Taylor, Cloughie’s right hand man and Jim Broadbent as Derby County’s chairman Sam Longson.

Today, I saw the poster for the first time and think its really well put together.

The Damned United Poster

“They love me for what I’m not . . . . . . they hate me for what I am” Brian Clough

I just think having that quote on the poster really explains Cloughie. This film really does have the potential to become the best films about football, as I cant think of any that are actually brilliant. Lets hope it has a wide release across the UK.

Release Date: 27th March 2009
