After taking part in the History Blogathon and mentioning An Affair to Remember, it made me want to watch it again. In the process it also meant that I am inspired to write this post. The film really does break your heart so many times, it’s quite crazy! So I have picked seven times it manages to do just that. But it could actually be more than seven really.

In 1946 in London, Maurice a passionate writer must face his ex-mistress Sarah after a chance meeting with her husband two years after she suddenly ended their affair.
The film spans over 24 hours when married couple Joanna and Michael are apart for the night. He is away on a business trip with the female colleague which caused an argument with Jo the night before. A surprise is in store for Jo when an old flame turns up in New York.
Karen and Harry – – – Harry and Mia
This story or more triangle has to contain the most heartbreaking scene of the movie. Harry (Alan Rickman) is married to Karen (Emma Thompson) and they have two children. Mia (Heike Makatsch) is Harry’s new secretary and makes no attempt to hide the fact that she fancies him.

A New York suburban couple Connie (Diane Lane) and Ed’s (Richard Gere) marriage goes astray as Connie has an adulterous fling, with Paul (Olivier Martinez). Risking her marriage and pretty much her lifestyle, for an affair which contains sex like she never had in her marriage. She was bored and ended up spending quite a lot of time with Paul during the day while her husband was at work and their son was at school. I will not reveal what happens at the end as I think the twists it takes are very good. I do like when she has a flashback to the day she met Paul and thinks about the way it should have gone, which I think just helps to show that every decision we make can go two ways and change everything, or you can keep it all the same.
