Best Picture Project

After the current awards season I have decided to start a new project on Let’s Go To The Movies . . .

Best Picture Project

Not just to watch and review the winners of the Best Picture Oscar since it began but to watch and review all of the nominees as well. This is a very big task. For the recent years or maybe even from the 90s I might have already seen them.

When I have completed all from one year I will then bring it together and do a big post on that year. If I feel the right film won, which I enjoyed and most importantly which ones I hated. A couple stick out in my mind already thinking about that.

You can keep track of the progress with the link provided above, I will link to the reviews and add if I have seen the film. I am not going to set a time frame for this huge task but if anyone has any tips that would be appreciated, especially if a film is then available on UK Netflix or Sky On Demand, please let me know!

2012 Challenges

Instead of setting some New Year’s resolutions for the blog or movie watching I have decided to set some 2012 challenges in regards to film watching!

  • Try to review each film I see at the cinema – now this wasn’t far off in 2011 but must do better!
  • Watch the films I have on DVD that I have never actually seen
  • Focus on old films with the year ending in 2 . . . 2002, 1992, 1982 etc
  • Form top 10 lists with regards to the above challenge
  • Catch up on films I missed in 2011
  • Make more use of my LOVEFiLM subscription
  • See more than 57 films at the cinema (2011’s total)

What about anyone else, any 2012 challenges?

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy -The Extended Edition [Blu-ray]

Lets face it I have been waiting for it to be announced when the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition was going to be released on Blu-Ray since getting my PS3 to play Blu-Rays on. I did not want to buy the theatrical versions like I did with the DVDs and decided to just wait for the Blu-Ray to come out!

June 27th 2011

That is the date when the Blu-Ray extended edition is to be released and I am definitely going to pre-order this! Over the past few months I had decided not to buy DVDs anymore and even Blu-Rays (until they become cheaper of course). But Lord of the Rings is the reason I love cinema and films so much. I have to own the extended versions on Blu-Ray!

Pre-order now: Amazon – HMV

LOVEFiLM on PS3

I have been a subscriber of LOVEFiLM since August last year and to be honest wasted my money for over a year due to the fact that I still have the DVD from August last year! I just never got round to posting it back, yes that does sound extremely lazy!

Now though LOVEFiLM is available on your PS3 on the network, which means you can watch certain films directly onto your TV from the PS3. Which I think sounds brilliant really! You have to be on an unlimited or games tariff to be able to take advantage of using your PS3.

I can see myself catching up with films I have wanted to watch as the selection of genre’s on the PS3 looks pretty good to me ranging from old classics to quite new releases. Also the fact I have the ability to play blu ray’s now also will encourage me to get my moneys worth from LOVEFiLM.

45 Years of the Sound of Music!

The hills are alive with the sound of music, with songs they have sung for 45 years . . . yes that’s right one of the most loved and well-known films of all time is 45 years young. To celebrate that another special DVD is being released along with the a Blu Ray Disc release! (Yes I shall be purchasing that one sometime soon).

Oprah reunited the cast for the first time since the film came out and it really shows just how special it is. It feels good to see the Von Trapp family all together again. I am not afraid to admit that “The Sound of Music” has always been and will always be one of my favorite ever films. It’s one of my feel good films that really helps me when I feel down.

I’ve watched it from since I can remember and know all of the words off by heart . . . that’s the dialogue as well as the songs. Julie Andrews is just incredible and I cannot believe if people have not seen this film! I just think it really does have a bit of everything. It even makes me cry with the romance between Maria and the Captain.

Is it eventually time to go Blu-ray?

Well this will probably suprise you but I am still not part of the blu-ray revolution! Yes I know that really is bad isnt it! But I do need a new TV in my room before I can go for the blu-ray dvd player etc. I think I have now waited long enough and must join a better viewing world in terms of film at home. Sky HD on the TV in the living room, but upstairs an old TV with normal pictures . . . yes it really is time to go HD and blu-ray I reckon!

I have been looking at that Samsung player from HMV as you get 6 blu-ray dvd’s with it for only £149.99 which seems like a great deal to me. Unless anyone can point me in the direction of a better deal?

So should I take the plunge and go blu-ray???
