What now for the Harry Potter kids?

As the end of the Potter franchise is slowly approaching what is next for the three kids or now adults who were instantly launched to super stardom as it was announced they would be Harry, Ron and Hermione in the films. Now at the ages of 21/22 what does the future hold for the three stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson?

I’m sure they could not imagine how much becoming the three much loved characters on screen was going to change their lives forever. But can they escape being Harry, Ron and Hermione? Well they haven’t just been doing the Potter films over the years, as they have grown up they have been doing different things as well. They all seem very set on staying in the entertainment world, whether that be on the stage or the silver screen. Which is very good that they all seem to be content on staying in the public eye and entertaining everyone in all different ways.

Daniel Radcliffe had a very successful stint in the West End with controversal play Equus which he then took to Broadway with fellow Potter actor Richard Griffiths. From March this year Radcliffe has returned to the Broadway stage in a revival production of ‘How to Succeed in the Business Without Really Trying’. A theatre career seems to be something that he is very interested in, but he also has a couple more films due for release this year.

Rupert Grint has appeared in quite a few different films over the years as well as the Potter films. Driving Lessons and Wild Target seem to be the most well known of his efforts. It seems as though he is determined to keep making films and taking on different roles.

Emma Watson decided a couple of years ago that education was very important to her and started studying at Brown University in the USA. She has since put that on hold for a while, which allowed her to be more involved in the promotion of the final Potter film. She also has a couple more film projects confirmed so she must be focusing more on her acting that her degree at the moment.

Lets not forget that they are not the only now young actors who have come through the Potter films a lot more started out as children and grew up in front of us on screen. Some of which will probably only ever be known for the Potter films, and not actually continue acting after all of the franchise is finished.

Tom Felton aka Draco Malfoy is now 23 years old, and gathered a cult following throughout the films. He has quite a few film projects lined up for the future and had already done quite a few acting jobs before staring in the Potter films. The most recent news about Tom has been that he is going to become a rapper, but that does sound like it could just be a funny rumour. He also has a role in the up and coming ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’.

A big name now in Robert Pattinson after becoming Edward Cullen in the Twilight saga, but lets not forget he was Cedric Diggory before all of that! He has put in some good performances in other films and is a keen singer. Maybe he will struggle to get away from the Cullen curse rather than one from the Potter films. Doubt many people instantly think Diggory when they hear his name.

Matthew Lewis who is best known as Neville Longbottom and appeared in all eight of the films. He currently doesn’t have any new movies in production, but in recent interviews has been stated that he does see acting as a career he is going to persue.

Bonnie Wright has been in all eight films, with her character growing throughout the series. She has recently become engaged to fellow Potter actor Jamie Campbell Bower. She is currently in production for a new film, and has done some modelling in the past. She seems to have big plans in the acting world.

I am sure we will all keep an eye on what the Potter kids, now young adults are getting up to in the coming years. The fans of the Potter films have always supported the actors and I am sure they always will. Let’s hope that we get to see fantastic things from the young cast as they embark on more adult acting career’s, which have already started for many of them already. It will be brilliant to see them have success in life after Potter, as lets admit that it has taken over the past 10 years for them to do all of the films. It must have been difficult to fit other work in around these films, and now we can see them all progress into a different career, leaving behind the characters we have grown to love.

Catherine Zeta Jones – Tony Award Winner 2010

With my major lack of updates over the past few months, I missed posting about one of my favorite actresses who has taken Broadway by storm with her debut in A Little Night Music. Which she won the Tony Award for best leading actress in a musical. She also performed Send in the Clowns that night and she really is a very talented performer.

I have been a huge fan of Catherine from the first time I saw her sing “All That Jazz” from “Chicago” the movie musical in which she won her Oscar for. Just a shame I came home from the USA a month or so before Catherine made her debut as I would have made sure I went to see her on the stage. Lets hope that she signs up for another movie musical or even makes her way back to where it all began on the West End stage!

I love her reaction when she found out that she won the award, total classic moment. Looks like she was trying to get Michael to go onto the stage with her!

Broadway: A Little Night Music

Two of my absoloute favorite actresses are going to be starring in “A Little Night Music” which starts later this month for press viewing. Broadway Legend Angela Lansbury and making her Broadway Debut Oscar winner Catherine Zeta Jones. I would just love to be able to get to New York to see this, would be a fantastic experience. Here are a couple of pictures from a meet and great held in New York on Friday.

Theatre Moment 1

As I am a huge musical theatre fan. I decided that I would find some of my favorite songs from the stage, and every now and then make a post about them. The first theatre moment as they shall be called, is a duet from “Mame” featuring two of my most favorite actresses, the late Bea Arthur and Angela Lansbury. They are both just so fantastic and this song/video is just great. I love it!

What do you make of this video?

Passing Strange (2009) Poster

I have just come across a poster for this film and was quite suprised as it started on Broadway a year or two ago, nominated for Tony awards in 2008 but did not do too well at the Tony’s and therefore closed on Broadway not long after the award ceremony. I checked IMDB and it has it listed as a TV movie, none the less below is the poster.

Broadway – Hamlet

I have just read that from September Jude Law is bringing Hamlet to Broadway !!! I think he got pretty mixed reviews in the West End, but still some very good praise. Yes this does mean I hope to hit Broadway again in September !!!

Broadway: Wicked Review

This has been an obsession of mine for quite a while now, and I am so glad that I have eventually seen it and that it was on Broadway !!!

Cast

Nicole Parker as Elphaba

 Alli Mauzey as Glinda

Rondi Reed, Madame Morrible
Kevin Kern, Fiyero
Brynn O’Malley, Nessarose
Alex Brightman, Boq
Timothy Britten Parker, Doctor Dillamond
P.J. Benjamin, The Wizard

It is a show which really does have everything, drama, romance, comedy and pretty much life. At so many points and moments in the show I related with how a character was feeling as I either feel like that now or have felt like that in the past about someone or something that has happened. I found it a very emotional experience and felt myself wanting to cry in parts, but then laughing. The friendship which came about after so much hatred between the two. So many twists and turns throughout the show, one of which I had no idea of from listening to the soundtrack over and over. But I know like that I have pieced together the full story from seeing the show.

I think the biggest show stopping moment is “defying gravity”. Which takes place at the end of the first act, just before the interval and it really is just incredible and fantastic.

Coming second to “Defying Gravity” in favorite songs from this musical (yes I love them all but have favorites, haha) as to be “As Long As Your Mine” the love song between Elphaba and Fiyero. Its just incredible, two people that you would never put together have fallen in love. Its quite a dark love song in terms of how love songs are in other musicals, but it is so lovely. “Just for this moment, as long as your mine . . . say theres no future for us as a pair . . . ” they both know that it will be difficult for them to be together forever, so they are happy just for this moment, as long as they are together. I find that so refreshing in entertainment where in movies and musicals the whole happily ever after, forever and ever thing going on.

The main story is focused on before Dorothy came to Oz. Although towards the end it kind of overlaps a little bit. But all of the characters are in there and I think its just fantastic how it all fits together so well. Just little details that have been put together, to make everything flow so well. I had attempted to read the book “Wicked” two years ago now. But I never really got into it, however I really do think that I will get it more now and understand more having a background to the story.

I now want the movie version to be made even more than I did before. I also want to see the show again, yes I did say this is an obsession of mine. “Everyone deserves a chance to fly!” I think everyone should go and see Wicked.

NYC

So yesterday I went on a nice day trip to New York. I went to see Wicked on Broadway and was incredible, I had the best seat 10 rows from the front and right in the centre.

I also went up the Empire State Building as it was a lovely day (plus I love that because of An Affair to Remember).

Also took random pictures of shops because of SATC haha.

Will post some pictures soon !!!

Wicked (2010) Preview

I love Wicked and a movie is planned for a 2010 release, although none of the cast has actually been confirmed it is just rumours at the moment. However, I hope these rumoured people take on the film roles, as they were in the original broadway production of the musical. This includes: Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenowith and Joel Grey. Two of these won Tony Awards for there performances.

I am sure I will have many more posts about Wicked as I really cannot wait to see it on the big screen in movie format. (But hopefully I will get to see it on Broadway before that happens . . . that really is on my to-do list).
