Happy New Year 2021!

We all know just how difficult 2020 was from March time, this time last year everything was pretty normal and the start of a new year with so much hope and promise. Trips planned that we were all looking forward to, so many films to see at the cinema. Little did we know that this would not happen, trips cancelled sometimes last minute then everything cancelled. A few films pushing release dates by a few months and then until 2021. All we can do is hope that cinemas will reopen in the UK at some point in 2021 and we will eventually get to see so many films that we had been looking forward to!

Brief Encounter – 75th Anniversary

On Wednesday I was lucky enough to be able to get to a screening of Brief Encounter at the cinema, Odeon in the Metro Centre to be exact! A film that is celebrating its 75th Anniversary this year and one that I have watched many times over the years and consider it to be one of my favourites. To see this incredible film on the big screen was a truly fantastic time.

Released in 1945 and still having so much to offer in 2020 is a remarkable achievement. Something that I don’t think happens too often, everything she goes through and talks about “in her head” we can still relate to now. Yes, we have technology and social media etc but the feelings of love and despair are something that have not really changed.

Quote: Rocky Balboa

Rocky Balboa from 2006 was the first Rocky film that I managed to see on the big screen at the cinema on its original release. I went back to witness it all again last week before Cineworld closed and I still throughly enjoy the sixth film in the franchise. This quote below is certainly one of the best! That is something that we need to think about everyday right?

The Cinema and My Mental Health

Today is World Mental Health Day and I thought I would get involved with this blog post about my own mental health and how I find Cinema to be a fantastic way to keep it under control and a release from not only the world and life but from myself as well.

Considering Cineworld have just closed across the UK and Odeon are operating some cinemas on a weekend only, it seems even more appropriate to be talking about this. During the lockdown and period of time I was on furlough I also lost the best thing to keep me calm and at times sane. The cinema. While that might seem a little bit dramatic and over the top, it is the place where I truly switch off from everything and not look at my phone for a few hours. Something that is difficult when you are just at home.
