Harry Potter style 3D Glasses

When myself and my friend went to the cinema on Sunday to see Bridesmaids, we were very excited to see the Harry Potter style 3D glasses on sale. I had heard rumours that they were going to be available due to the final film being in 3D form. But that was the first I had actually seen them. So we decided to buy them despite the fact that we don’t really want to see the film in 3D or actually big fans of the 3D film! But we could not resist getting them! We then sat before the film started and took pictures in them, convinced that the other people in the cinema must have thought we were sat in the wrong screen with Bridesmaids not being in 3D . . . You even get a little bag to keep them in 🙂

Cineworld: Harry Potter Marathon

Cineworld are having a Harry Potter Marathon starting Friday 8th July in build up to the release of the Deathly Hallows part 2. Which is consisting of showing each Harry Potter movie every day. Here

Being a very late comer into the world of Harry Potter I have only seen the Deathly Hallows part 1 on the big screen. I am therefore going to try to get to them all, if it doesn’t sell out of course. I cannot pre-book with the unlimited card!

They are offering tickets to all 7 films for 21 pound or 4 pound each screening!

Cinema Code of Conduct

The 11th rule I am adding is for those people out there that when given a seat to actually sit it . . . like row G seats 12 and 13 for example and decide to just sit somewhere else and that happens to be a seat which is already taken. Just sit in the seat that has already been allocated to you! It avoids noise and people moving about when the film is due to start!

Best time to write a film review?

This thought came across my mind when reviewing Eclipse last week, and thinking about when the best time to write your movie review is. Baring in mind over the past few months I have not really reviewed many films, as have found myself extremely busy. Hopefully know I have managed to find a happy medium and manage to continue in a better manner with this blog.

For me when I write a review really does depend on the film. After seeing certain films I feel the need to quickly draft some thoughts down, in a start to the review. However, at times I write the review as quick as possible after watching the film. Some films with tougher subject matters and more thought into them often require a couple of days to let it all digest properly.

Whilst on my none posting period on the blog, I did go to the cinema and even start drafts for different film reviews. But for some of these films I feel as though the time may have passed until I can get a second viewing of the film, as too much time has passed since I watched them now.

My main point of this blog post is to get opinions of what my fellow bloggers find as the best approach.

So I propose these questions to you:

1. When do you write your film review?

2. How long do feel is too long after seeing a film to write a review?

3. Any particular film genre you struggle with the reviews?

Shrek 4 brings it’s own 3D Glasses . . .

As you may have noticed and remember from previous blogs I have written I am not the biggest fan of the 3D film, the only one which has really blown me away has been Avatar because they did not play on the 3D effects. The release of Shrek 4 aka Shrek Forever After last week, also saw the release of some special Shrek style glasses!

I plan on going to see the film on Saturday morning, which will probably be total madness with the number of children in the screen but I must admit that I do plan on buying the Shrek style glasses just because they really do look amusing!

But my main thoughts on this subject are how long before each film decides to cash in twice by having 3D glasses with something from the film on them? My guess is not long even if it just has the film name along the side. The whole 3D experience seems to be getting more expensive by the minute.

If you buy the glasses at a Cineworld cinema (I have no idea about the other chains) you receive a voucher for 1 pound off popcorn and one pound off a drink, but is that really worth it? With food and drink being so expensive at the cinema.

All this is just thinking about loud really, but I can see more and more different styles of 3D glasses sneaking into films over the next year or so!

Meme: 10 Movie Facts About Me

Well the newest craze hitting the blogosphere has been 10 movie facts about me a meme. Andy from Fandango Groovers so kindly tagged me to post 10 movie facts. Love it! This will all be off the top of my head, so I have no idea which direction it will head in (if any). Big shout out to who originally started this post, we really are feeling the love in the movie blogging world over the past few weeks and I think it really is just brilliant.

1. I am a total geek when it comes to going to the cinema, as I keep the tickets from every film I go to see. This helps when myself and friends argue about the last film we saw in a certain screen (from 1-11 in our local cinema).

2. The first film I ever saw at the cinema was Aladdin which would have made me 4 or 5 (depending on UK release date) and I am pretty sure I went to see it twice.

3. I can remember a hell of a lot of film quotes and find myself telling them to people in certain situations, often to help them feel better.

4. I have hundreds and hundreds of DVDs. Some of which have been watched lots and lots of times (Lord of the Rings, Julia Roberts films . . . ) and some have been watched once (Hope Springs is one I can think of off the top of my head) and about 25 have never been watched and on my must watch list.

5. I am extremely pleased that I suddenly decided to start this blog one day as it has allowed me to meet a lot of interesting people through there blogs, getting involved in blogging events and encouraging me to really think about some films whilst writing reviews and even paying closer attention when watching them. To say the least it has become somewhat a hobby.

6. Every now and then I have an actor of the moment which causes me to dive into their past work, often buying more DVDs. Over the years this has happened with Richard Gere, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and most recently Daniel Craig (thank you Casino Royale !!!).

7. My feel good, never fails to put a smile on my face movie is “The Sound of Music” possibly my most watched film EVER. As I grew up watching it and still love it to this day. I always thought Julie Andrews was the most perfect speaking woman.

8. I have a Cineworld cinema pass which I think is the best 13.50 a month to come out of my bank account! Unlimited cinema for that much a month really is something else. I do my best to go twice a week maybe more if loads of different films are out.

9. As I have probably mentioned before I never read a review before I see the film. The furthest I will go when reading a paper with a review in is looking to see how many stars they gave the review – as this doesn’t often make it very obvious how the film goes. But after I have seen a film and wrote my review, I will then read what other people thought of the film.

10. My friends and family often ask me if I have seen certain films and what I thought of them. It’s not very often I actually tell people a film is bad unless I wanted to turn it off or leave the cinema. I don’t often do that because I find that everyone has different opinions so something I hate they may love and vice versa.

Well there we go 10 random movie facts about me!!!

Oscars 2010 – Predictions

I am afraid this is going to be my last Oscars 2010 post until some red carpet pictures and the results and my opinions on who one, how the show went and the hosts Steve Martin and my man of the moment Alec Baldwin. As I cannot as originally planned stay up to watch he ceremony. 😦

Another downside to this years Oscars, I have not managed to see many of the nominated films. Some still have not appeared in my local cinema which has been so disappointing! My predictions therefore have to be based on what I have heard about some of films and performances (and where the other awards shows have gone to).

Movie Memorabilia 1 – Up Cup

Well I decided to start a possible new feature on my blog of movie memorabilia I have lying around or get in the future. The first to feature on the blog is going to be a cup from “Up” yes I was very mature and thought Up Cup sounded funny so decided that when we went to see Up I would buy the cup.

While yes I went on about getting this cup for ages. I still have not actually used it. I guess it is just going to be more of an inside joke with myself and friends.

A New Year = Lots of New Movies

I have to admit that I have totally slacked with reviews and even general posts on my blog over the Christmas and New Year period. Mainly due to the fact that I have surprisingly not watched very many movies at all. Which was not my plan, I usually find it a good time to catch up on some movies which I have missed watching in the past but this did not happen this year. I have not actually been to the cinema in quite a few weeks now and have yet to see Avatar. I am planning on Nine tomorrow, we are going to be entering a busy time at the cinema with a lot of new movies coming out which should mainly be good as it is awards season soon.

So I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year . . . who can believe it is 2010 already ?!?! Where does the time go!!

What are you looking forward to movie wise this year?
