“Life, uh, finds a away.”

Now that I have your attention with this quote from Jurassic Park, you read it in Jeff Goldblum’s voice didn’t you.

Just thought I would post a little update due to the lack of blog posts and film reviews. Believe it or not until Thursday (two days ago) I hadn’t been to the cinema for a month, which I actually feel is the longest I have gone in many years. That was for a few reasons really, being busy having started a new job in January, closing in on finishing my PGCE and not really wanting to see the films that had been released. Years ago I used to try and watch every single film that was released but these days I feel I make better choices for my personal prefrences when it comes to what I will actually enjoy watching.

It appears though, that Cineworld missed me in that month and have sent me a free popcorn and drink which I will natuarally be using in that 7 day period. But can we also just talk about the quality of films on offer over that past month not being very appealing, also please feel free to update me if you feel I have actually missed something good. On Thursday I caught The Penguin Lessons (with review to follow).

Cineworld: Closure of 6 Cinemas Announced

Yesterday Cineworld annouced that 6 cinemas are going to close at the end of September. Those being Glasgow Parkhead, Bedford, Hinckley, Loughborough, Yate and Swindon – Regent Circus.

Considering the rumours circulating on Thursday and Friday that 25 cinemas were going to be closed, and lists of the at risk 100 Cinemas being posted in articles online by members of the press and that the staff would find out on Friday. Again that didn’t happen and then yesterday the annoucement of the six closing cinemas was made, along with Cineworld stating the reason behind this was a cost-cutting drive.

Cineworld Secret Screening 12 – Possible Films

Cineworld Secret Screening 12

Date: Tuesday 6th August 2024
Time: 19:30pm

Just a reminder that the rating and running time listed on the website does not link directly to the film, I have noticed on the Cineworld website this is listed as an 18. This is slightly different to the usual 15 rating for secret screenings.

Here are some potential films that could be for the secret screening …

#Bloganuary – What do you complain about the most? – Cinema Edition

Bloganuary writing prompt
What do you complain about the most?

This question popped up as a prompt so I thought I would make it cinema related and put in my biggest complaints about going to the cinema!

Empty Screen – Some booking the sit next to/behind/infront of you!
Seriously what makes someone decide that in a big and empty screen with maybe 10 people already booked in, to then book the seat right next to you? It’s just super strange behaviour and one of the things that has made me now book my ticket about five minutes before the film starts. As let’s face it the number of seats in so many cinema screens now is so huge that having them fully booked out doesn’t happen all that often. Not at my local Cineworld anyway. The same for when only a few people are booked in, yet all 6 in 2s across three different rows is another werid booking thing that blows my mind. I mean you have chosen your own seats for years now.

Phones
This has been an issue for so many years now, since the introduction of smartphones and the obsessive nature that we all use them. Don’t get me wrong during the ever increasing number of adverts and the fact that 95% of the time I go to the cinema alone I do use my phone up until that point. But constantly using them throughout the film is frustrating as they always completely light up and cause a distraction! Due to this it has also added to my booking five minutes before start time, to sit closer to the screen to avoid that happening as let’s face it I would never actually say anything to anyone.

Adverts after the trailers!
Not sure if this is just a Cineworld thing, as I can’t remember if there was more adverts on my last Odeon trip. We have all been so used to adverts, then the good part of the trailers as come on we want to see what is coming soon. Then settle into the film, but no not know we then get two or three more adverts after the trailers, even though this has been going on for a while now it is still super annoying.

Big gap from US to UK release
Now this is something that isn’t as bad as it used to be for the “bigger” more blockbuster type films which get worldwide release at the same time, but when you get into some of the smaller and more independent films we still have quite a gap when it comes to the awards season films as well (which is personally one of my favourite times of year, and an attempt to watch all of the Oscar Best Picture nominees before the ceremony).

What are your biggest complaints about the cinema?

Cineworld Secret Screening 11 – Possible Films!

The first secret screening of 2024 taking place at Cineworld which is the 11th Secret Screening (that is open to everyone, don’t forget these started off being Unlimited Secret Screenings that you had to be a member for).

Date: Monday 22nd January 2024
Time: 19:30

Just a reminder that the rating and running time listed on the website does not link directly to the film, just because it has a 15 rating does not mean that it has to be a 15, we have had U/PG films as secret screenings in the past.

Here are some potential films that could be for the secret screening …

Cineworld Secret Screening 8 – Possible Films?

Cineworld have had quite a few Secret Screenings in the past few months, and it is just over a month since the last one in August which was the indie film Scrapper.

Date: Wednesday 27th September 2023
Time: 7:45pm

Just a reminder before attempting to guess potential films that the 15 rating and 90 minutes time listed on the website does not mean that it will be that rating or that length! They have to put a 15 rating incase of course it is a 15 film, so basically we can rule out 18 rated films (not that we get many of them these days). In the past animated films which have had a PG rating have been Secret Screenings. Here is a recap of the first 10 original Secret Screening films.

Anyway moving on here are my potential picks for this secret screening on Wednesday 27th September 2023!

Cineworld Secret Screening 7 – Possible Films?

Cineworld have had quite a few Secret Screenings in the past few months, I haven’t been able to attend them for different reasons and hadn’t been organised enough for blog posts with potential films that it could be. Also with the changes from Unlimited Secret Screening to Secret Screening this therefore messed up my blog posts with the numbers, as they kinda started again. But never mind!
