Film and Theatre Lover!
In a dystopian future if you are single (or suddenly become single) you must leave The City and go to The Hotel. You are given 45 days to find a partner/match or you will be turned into animal and released into the woods. You get to pick which animal you would like to be though.
Pretty good timing to have a trip down to London and that it wasn’t intentionally for the BFI London Film Festival. Yes I know it totally should have been, but that was not the case. Any way a couple of weeks ago I had a little look at the films that were going to be on while I was in the capital, I must have totally missed that The Lady in the Van had Gala screenings.
But I am going to see a show tonight so not going to get to attend the full on Gala event, being able to see the red carpet they were setting up as I passed earlier. All is not lost though as I have got a ticket to go and see the film at 11:30am tomorrow morning. Fitting it in before heading to see Nicole Kidman in Photograph 51.
Not really sure where to start about this film as it has quite a few different things going on and rather confusing throughout. You won’t ever really be sure what is happening.
The story (or inspired by the story) behind Disney’s much-loved film Mary Poppins and how difficult it was to get from the page to screen, with author P.L. Travers holding onto her beloved character and wanting her true meaning to shine through.
Screenwriter Marty is struggling to write his latest film but has the title Seven Psychopaths. With help from his friend Billy he ends up being mixed up with all the wrong people in LA . . . Believe it or not psychopaths!
Doug Quaid a factory worker begins to suspect that he cannot remember somethings after having the same recurring dream. He decides to visit Rekall but the simple checks go wrong when it turns out he was a spy, who had his memory changed . . .
As it coming up to September I thought that a new monthly feature on my blog is going to contain the up and coming releases for the UK in that month. This would therefore be the films that I would also hope to have the chance of seeing at my local Cineworld cinema . . . obviously if a limited release happens, then I struggle to see the smaller films. I think we should now start to see some better films coming out after the so called summer blockbuster season is now over as we enter September.
We see a wide range of genre’s opening in the month of September, so you really do have quite a broad choice of films to choose every week. This is something that has to be better than the summer which seemed to be just comic book film after comic book film . . . which I do love but it’s nice to have some different types of films out for a bit more variety!
Fright Night
Vampire films are still classed as being very in at the moment, although I wouldn’t complain with Colin Farrell being a vampire! But this one is going for the mix between comedy and horror, which we don’t really see very often. But not long to wait to find out how this film is!
Three men each have massive problems with their bosses, and begin to think that they should do something about it. Trying to plan the murders but making it look like a total accident becomes the plan, but it’s really not that simple at all.
Two brothers Ian (McGregor) and Terry (Farrell) both end up having money problems. Ian wants to venture into the hotel business and Terry gambles it all away. An opportunity presents itself to get all the money they need from their rich uncle, but only if they do him a favour first. How far will they go to get the money?
Mitchell (Farrell) is released from prison and finds himself quickly in trouble again getting involved with gangster Gant (Winstone) even though he does not see himself as a gangster. While this is going on he ends up falling in love with a young actress Charlotte (Knightley), who he has a job protecting from the press. I was very much looking forward to seeing this film as British gangster films are usually good to watch, this one however is lacking something.
