2014 at the Cinema!

A record-breaking total!!!

The other amazing thing about this year as that I managed to review every single film I watched at the cinema. Something I have tried to do since starting Let’s Go To The Movies in 2009, but it has never actually worked out. I have a system now of making sure the review is done after getting home from the cinema or the following morning. It’s good to have a routine to make sure they are done, something good to look back at and see what your thoughts were. Also to actually track which films you watched!

I honestly would not be able to afford to go to the cinema this many times if it wasn’t for Cineworld’s Unlimited Card, it is an incredible deal where you pay monthly. So a big massive thank you to Cineworld for still running this incredible offer!

2014 – 62 Films

Previous years at the cinema:

2013 – 59 Films

2012 – 40 Films

2011 – 60 Films

2010 – 33 Films

2009 – 34 Films

2008 – 49 Films

2007 – 39 Films

2006 – 21 Films

Golden Globe Nominations 2015

It’s getting to that time of year when all the more serious films come out ready for awards season, well the Golden Globe nominations for 2015 are out. Having a look at the lists only about half of the films have hit the cinema in the UK so far. But I have seen quite a few of the trailers for the other films as well. So at least it gives an idea of which ones to look out for and head to see. Usually these are pretty good predictors for who will be nominated at the Oscars as well.

The Golden Globes are usually good to watch and more relaxed than the Academy Awards. Probably a few surprises in these nominations and some quite big films missing out!

I have decided to put a * next to the films I have already seen!

Best Motion Picture – Drama
Boyhood*
Foxcatcher
The Imitation Game*
Selma
The Theory of Everything

My Hometown Blogathon!

This is Let’s Go To The Movies first attempt of hosting a blogathon! Which hasn’t worked out too well with the timing of it all, having been in South Africa for 10 days last week! This did however mean a very long trip on a plane and plenty of films watched and caught up with. But also meant I didn’t have time to send out any updates and see if anyone else wanted to take part in the Hometown Blogathon, so basically if you would like to submit your town at any point over the next week then feel free to put a post together!

Please find below the fantastic bloggers who have took the time to put together some brilliant posts about where they live (or used to live).

Montreal, Canada – Tranquil Dreams

Birmingham, England – Flick Chicks

Queens, New York, USA – Dell on Movies

Poços de Caldas, MG, Brazil – Critica Retro

Perth, Australia – Feeling Fuzzier

Staunton, VA and The Shenandoah Valley – Mysterious Bibliophile

Chicago, USA – All Eyes On Screen

From Stage to Screen Blogathon – Everything I’ve Seen

When I came across this fantastic Blogathon idea by Rachel over at Rachel’s Theatre Reviews and Rosie over at The Rosebud Cinema. It was something that I just had to get involved with, because as well as loving the cinema and films I have a passion for the theatre and seeing shows. This is something which I have now properly been doing for the past 10 years, yes realising that has made me stop and think, so it seems to be a perfect time to put together this blog post. I am going to look at all of the different shows I have seen on the stage and then also seen the film version.

Announcement: My Hometown Blogathon

Let’s Go To The Movies would like to announce hosting its first ever Blogathon. Which is going to be based around everyone’s hometown. The idea is to do a little bit of research to put together a blog post about your hometown and link it to film. It doesn’t matter if another blogger is from the same town as the blog posts could take totally different angles on it. You are more than welcome to do more than one town if you have moved around and class a few different places as your home.

Some areas you may want to include:

  • Films set in that town
  • Films filmed in your town
  • Famous people in film born in your town
  • Famous people in film who grew up in your town
  • Famous people in film who now live in your town

While I have said film, you can also link to TV shows, Theatre and books if you want to take that angle. I know the blogging network is very large and want to encourage maximum participation in this blogathon!

If you can look to have the posts up by the weekend – 22nd and 23rd November this gives everyone plenty of time to put something together!

From Stage to Screen Blogathon

Just come across this Blogathon which is taking place next weekend! Certainly something I am very interested in given my love for theatre and going to see shows as well as going to the cinema and watching films. So my plan is to pull together a few blog posts for this one! Or at the very least one long blog post with the possibility of then having a feature running in a similar theme for the shows I have seen on the stage and also seen the film version.

The blogathon is being run by Rachel over at Rachel’s Theatre Reviews and Rosie over at The Rosebud Cinema. Such an incredible idea from the pair and I am very much looking forward to putting together a good post over the next week to take part. So thought it was a great idea to give the whole blogathon a shoutout and see if anyone else wants to get involved!

First Ever . . . The North East Blogger Awards

A few days ago whilst on Twitter something came to my attention during the #NorthEastHour that for the first time ever ‘The North East Blogger Awards’ is going to take place. So I decided that the best way to get the information out there and ask for you to vote for me for me in the lifestyle category! If you did not already know I am from and still live in South Shields. A small seaside town in the North East of England between Newcastle and Sunderland. Probably most well-known for being the finish line of the Great North Run?

Basically all you need to do is head to the website … here scroll down the page a little and enter my blog details to vote for me to win! I would really appreciate if you could do this as find this a fantastic idea for all of the people based in the North East of England who blog!

London Film Museum – Bond in Motion

On the trip to London over the weekend we decided to head across to the London Film Museum in Convent Garden to have a look at the Bond in Motion exhibition they have on at the moment (and for the rest of this year). It features many of the different cars, planes and other gadgets that are seen in all of the different Bond films. To see so many incredible cars in one place really is a brilliant experience, especially those smashed up Aston Martins!

7 Angela Lansbury Songs

Cineworld – Secret Screening 2

If you read my blog a lot you will probably know that I have an Unlimited Card for Cineworld cinemas and this means you pay monthly and can go and see as many films as you want. An added bonus has been the Unlimited preview screenings and now secret screenings! The first one was held earlier this year and we got a very advanced screening of ‘Now You See Me’. It was a very strange yet fun experience not knowing what film was going to start after the trailers and Kevin Bacon advert! Now with only a couple of days to go until the second secret screening (and the two clues below) I cannot help but wonder what the film is going to be. A lot of the talk is pointing towards ‘Last Vegas’ and that is understandable.

Clue 1: He who ruled over the army had his name traced out by meteors and he clashed in the city of the rat pack. Figured it?

Clue 2: He was a good man but one to avoid. If it’s at the centre of what he works for, are you really alive? Are you watching?

Any ideas on what the film it could be?
