Since my announcement post back in March (here) I have spent a lot of time glued to the Showmasters forum and Twitter feed for any more announcement of guests that I would just love to meet and gaining understanding of how a Comic Con works. It does sound totally nuts at times but I am sure I can survive and work it all out!

I have now booked more photoshoots to go along with the Jason Momoa and I am now going on the Saturday as well!

Has positive discrimination in film gone too far?

Positive discrimination – the practice or policy of favouring individuals belonging to groups known to have been discriminated against previously.

I am quite happy that this could be seen as controversial but in all honesty I am growing tired of how everything has been developing over the past few years. We cannot change the past and influence how people were treated, that mainly being women’s roles. But remember life was different years ago and women were seen as being second to men. I’ve always been in a male dominated world with football, so just come to accept certain things. We are now getting films that are supposed to be historical but then changed to make the female roles bigger and that annoys me in terms of story. Men have got a lot of hate through the MeToo movement and this has transferred into film as well.

Happy 80th Birthday Sir Ian McKellen!

You are probably already aware that I am a huge fan of Sir Ian McKellen and the legendary actor turns 80 years old today! With no signs of slowing down having been in the West End last year, still starring in films and currently on an epic UK tour to celebrate turning 80! I will be heading to see it in August when he comes to Newcastle!

New start-up The Next Big Film is bringing the UK’s first box office prediction game to market.  The Leeds company has created an innovative app-based game that allows you to ‘own’ your favourite film releases to compete with fellow film lovers by predicting which movie you think will perform best at the box office.  The game is an opportunity to put your (virtual) money where your mouth is and will test your movie knowledge.

The Breakfast Club (March 24th)

breakfastclub.jpg-jpg

That’s right today is Breakfast Club day! Well, the date just 35 years later, yes that’s right 35 years after the events in the film!

A truly outstanding film I must add at that! Don’t forget about them . . .

Trailer: Toy Story 4 (2019)

The trailer for Toy Story 4 has just been released and it certainly looks like its going to be another good addition to the now franchise! I have always loved the first two and totally enjoyed the 3rd when it came out. This one certainly looks to take a little bit of a darker turn . . .

Blogathon: The Film That Started It All

The Film That Started It All Blogathon

We all have that one truly special film, the one that really made your love for film and cinema so deep. I thought it would be a fantastic idea to share this with each other and it could really create some positive thoughts and discussion.

The film does not have to be the greatest ever made, just the one that you relate to as your biggest influence in terms of loving film and cinema! I have had this idea for quite a while now and after so many negative comments and attitudes on Twitter recently I felt we all needed do think positively about the films we love!

Dates: April 19th-22nd 2019

This gives more than a month to get involved and I thought it would be ideal to do this over the long Easter bank holiday weekend. So if you want to get involved please comment below and with which film you will be writing about (for this one it really doesn’t matter if someone else is writing about the same film). If you let me know which film you are going to be writing about I can put together your own graphic!

Content
This can be anything you want really in terms of format as well, if you want to do it as a list or an in-depth post detailing everything you loved and hopefully still love about the film.

Please share this on your blog to help grow the announcement and get fellow bloggers to sign up!

POP! Collection: The Shape of Water

Having preordered this two POP figures almost a year ago after The Shape of Water picked up the Best Picture at the Oscars, they have arrived! They were supposed to get released in October 2018. But that didn’t happen, no panic though as March 2019 and they have arrived!

Music Stars at the Movies

I have recently re-watched the Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper A Star Is Born and I then received this amazing infographic from Betway with fantastic research around awards and music stars which just seemed like perfect timing. While Lady Gaga has been nominated for her amazing turn in A Star Is Born, the transition from music to film is not always a smooth one. This makes for interesting reading in all honesty, to show that they are either a massive hit or a masssive flop!
